LECTURER POSITION – SPREADSHEET MODELING AND PROGRAMMING
The Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management at Cornell University seeks a Lecturer, 3-year appointment (9- month appointment, non-tenure track) with possibility of renewal. Renewal is contingent upon performance reviews and availability of funding.As part of the SC Johnson College of Business and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University, the school invites applications from qualified individuals for a position beginning either January 2018 or July 2018.
Responsibilities of the position include:
Outstanding applicants in the area of Spreadsheet Modeling and Programming including Microsoft Excel, VBA, SQL and knowledge of database management systems invited to apply. The incumbent in this position will be expected to teach six (3+3) undergraduate courses (100% teaching) for the Dyson School per academic year. Teaching current undergraduate courses, including but not limited to: Spreadsheet Modeling for Management and Economics, a quantitative problem-solving course emphasizing advanced Microsoft Excel® fluency, and proposed courses in Excel Programming with VBA and an Introductory Data Management (with SQL data management queries). A required second year course addition in Introductory Python with business application is desirable.
The Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management is an internationally renowned school in the areas of management, food and agricultural economics, environmental, energy and resource economics, and international and development economics. The undergraduate program is consistently recognized as one of the elite accredited business degrees in the U.S. The graduate program awards research degrees at the doctoral and master's levels and a professional master's degree.
While the appointment is in the Dyson School, the appointment could allow students from any of the College's three AACSB-accredited Schools. The Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management (Johnson) offers MBA, Accelerated MBA, Executive MBA, and PhD programs. Courses and programs are taught at Cornell's main Ithaca campus, the Cornell Tech campus in New York City, and other locations across the globe. The School of Hotel Administration (SHA) is the world's premier School in hospitality management, offering bachelor's through PhD degrees. SHA also hosts the University's real estate programs. The Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management is a top ranked undergraduate business program and home to premier graduate (MPS, MS and PhD) programs in applied economics, with emphases in environmental, energy and resource economics, food and agricultural economics, international and development economics, as well as the core management disciplines.
Courses to be taught include, but re not limited to the following, which may be amended in order to support academic need
(2)Excel Programming with VBA
(3)Introduction to Data Management (with SQL data management queries)
(4)Second year course addition (preferred, but negotiable) - Introductory Python course (with business applications).
It is also expected that the incumbent be actively engaged with students as a teacher, adviser and mentor.
Master's degree with demonstrated teaching ability within an institution of higher education where student-faculty relations are highly valued. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience and skill in the area of spreadsheet modeling and programming languages, and willingness to teach both.
Candidates should be comfortable delivering course material in both lab and lecture settings. Candidates should be fluent in all of the Microsoft Office 2016 Productivity Suite. The candidate will collaborate with colleagues to both develop and revise original course material. Preferred candidates will have experience teaching standard undergraduate courses and a familiarity with management, spreadsheet modeling and programming.
In addition to teaching, faculty members in The Dyson School engage in curriculum- and course-development activities with colleagues, as well as service to the school in the form of faculty committees, area tasks, and other projects as required. Faculty members pursue professional-development opportunities in applied economics, management and business analytics. Faculty members also advise and mentor students.
