The School of Pharmacy has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist Engineer 1. This position will independently implement and perform analytical research (both small and large molecules) using LC-MS to support external collaborators and senior students and scientists in two laboratories. The candidate will be responsible for performing the following tasks:
Quantify drug metabolizing enzymes, transporters, and small organic molecules using LC-MS analysis Collect, store and inventory biological (tissue/cell line) samples Isolate cell membrane fraction from cell/tissue samples using standard laboratory protocol Enzyme digestion of cell and tissue samples using standard protocol Monitor LC-MS sample analysis and maintenance of LC-MS instrument during analysis Perform analysis of LC-MS data and write reports Select peptide probes using literature/database search for protein quantification Prepare cell culture media and assist in routine cell culture work Manage freezers and other inventories of the lab Manage QPromics database Manage external collaborations on quantitative proteomics Help in lab safety management
The individual in this position will have an opportunity to learn various aspects of analysis by LC-MS, including quantitative proteomics and small molecules. The training will include LC-MS method development/optimization for protein quantification in tissues and cell lines, method validation, sample preparation.

Bachelor's degree in biology or chemistry related discipline with minimum of 2 years of research experience in analytical lab(s).
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
