The Everglades Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to leading efforts to restore and protect the greater Everglades ecosystem. Since its founding in 1993 by a group of local outdoor enthusiasts, the Foundation has become a respected and important advocate for the sustainability of one of the world’s most unique ecosystems.
Funds raised by the Foundation are used for scientific research, advancing understanding of the Greater Everglades ecosystem, and to provide grants to our conservation partners. In addition to grants, the Foundation supports necessary legal actions to help protect the Everglades. Through environmental leadership, scientific expertise, and policy experience, the Everglades Foundation works to protect and restore America’s Everglades.
The Foundation’s world-class science department conducts and sponsors scientific research and analysis so that our policies, positions, and actions are governed by facts.
The Foundation has an operating budget of $7+ million, a talented staff of 23, and a high-profile national 30-member Board of Directors. The Foundation’s board has committed to personally supporting the organization’s administrative and fundraising costs to allow any support raised from outside donors to go directly toward work in science, research, education, and advocacy.
The Senior Director of Development is a seasoned fundraising professional who will work directly with the Vice President of Development to successfully achieve mission growth through a strong and sustainable development program. The Senior Director will support the fundraising goals of the Foundation with broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising and is able to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle: to initiate contacts with potential donors; develop appropriate cultivation strategies, including working with volunteers and board members; move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation; personally make solicitations; and maintain stewardship contacts with donors.
The Senior Director will supervise a team of three front-line fundraising gift officers. The Senior Director provides expert management of the Foundation’s strategic development plan, guide the implementation of donor strategy, programs, and communications, and execute ongoing fundraising efforts and activities.

Manage a major gift portfolio of 40-60 donors and prospects with the capacity to give $100,000 or more
Design and manage direct mail campaign appeals
Research and identify new sources of support, proactively seeking opportunities to generate new proposals based on aligned interests with donors and prospects
Keep current donors informed throughout the year with key information about the projects they are supporting. Develop articles and testimonies of support to share with constituents via social media, newsletters, and online
Manage the oversight of stewardship communications and reports to inform funding sources of the use and importance of their gifts
Networking and board relations to assist in the development of key relationships and opportunities to advance organizational objectives
