Advertised Summary Job Description: Under the supervision of the PI, the Technician B will provide support within the New York Obesity Research Center (NYORC). Assist research team members with experiments schedule following various protocol requirements for each study visit, in a smooth and efficient manner. Collect and process serum, plasma, including centrifugation, pipetting, ice handling, proper labeling and measurements of blood glucose. Keep accurate log of samples location in -80 freezers. Communicate with lab technician to organize hormone and metabolite assays. Participate in the preparation and administering of diet/ test meal and behavior questionnaires. Provide accurate and complete collection of data and specimen entry in various logs. Perform data processing and data entry in computer (Excel) and statistical analysis with SPSS. Make graphs using Excel and Power Point. Use research software to calculate insulin secretion rate and insulin sensitivity. Help with slide, manuscripts, and grant reports. Perform literature searches and reference tracking using EndNotes. Assist in preparation of study related documentation for the IRB, Research pharmacy, Clinical trial office and CTSA-CRR submission and for publications. Assist in preparation of funding agency Data Safety Monitoring reports, quarterly reports and final reports. Perform additional related duties as assigned.
General Minimum Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related science or equivalent in training and/or experience.
The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Excellent written and oral communication skills. Outstanding ability to work well with others, particularly in a team setting; maintains the ability to relate to a diverse community of persons from various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Computer skills including intermediate working knowledge of MS Word (Word, Excel), Access, Outlook. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Solid time-management skills and ability to effectively multitask.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with SPSS. Experience working in a hospital environment or a research setting.
