We are committed to equal opportunity and affirmative action, and strive to attract and nurture a talented and diverse faculty and staff that proudly reflect the unique character of the local Queens community, the most diverse county in the United States.Reporting to the Executive Director of Financial Services at QBCC, the Financial Aid Specialist will be responsible for the following:Perform verification of federal financial aid files for those students who are "selected for verification" by the US Department of Education in accordance with federal regulations, and make corrections, as needed, to finalize financial aid awards;Serve as liaison to the Title IV Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) committee;Counsel students regarding the policies and procedures governing the Title IV SAP, advise students regarding the appeals process, counsel students regarding the outcome of their appeal and the parameters of their academic plan in order to continue to receive Title IV aid, perform outreach to students who are at the "warning" point of SAP determination, referring them to seek academic advisement to improve their standing so as not to "fail" SAP in the future;Process financial aid packages for those students whose appeals are approved;Maintain student database for SAP statuses and appeal outcomes;Serve as liaison to the Academic Senate Awards and Scholarships committee;Conduct financial aid workshops, presentations and FAFSA Completion Sessions for various constituents of the college;Provide in-person counseling to students and parents as needed;Represent the Office of Financial Services at various campus events, such as Open House and Orientation programs;Work evenings and weekends, as needed.QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.Other Qualifications: * Knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations, policies and procedures required; * Experience using the Financial Aid module of an integrated student information system - the PeopleSoft Financial Aid module preferred; * Strong written, oral and interpersonal customer service skills to support interaction with staff and/or students from diverse backgrounds, along with detail-oriented analytical problem solving abilities preferred; * Strong technical skills, including Word, Access and Excel - with advanced Excel technical skills preferred.CUNY TITLE OVERVIEWAdministers and supervises financial aid programs and operations. * Reviews contracts, disbursements, tuition and fees; validates student eligibility for various programs * Administers, monitors and troubleshoots CUNY financial aid systems as well as Federal and NY State systems in order to ensure integrity of student databases and timely and accurate delivery of funds * Assists CUNY staff, applicants, and students/families with advice on financial aid issues and eligibility * May review and reconcile student payroll processing * Represents the Financial Aid function at Admissions events; works with academic departments as well as Bursar, Registrar, Admissions and Computing offices to assure staff understand and implement financial aid processes correctly * Assists in the development and evaluation of Admissions processes * Prepares documentation, instructions, and materials in various media to support financial aid activities * Performs related duties as assigned.Job Title Name: Financial Aid SpecialistCUNY TITLEHigher Education AssistantFLSAExemptCOMPENSATION AND BENEFITSSalary commensurate with education and experience.CUNY's benefits contribute significantly to total compensation, supporting health and wellness, financial well-being, and professional development.
