Will administer prescribed respiratory therapeutic services across all SAH campuses to include specialized critical care areas.
Demonstrate extensive knowledge of function and mastery level application of all medical equipment utilized. Assist in maintenance of medical equipment, and in the evaluation of new devices/techniques. Organize tasks to optimize achievement of all work assigned those less skilled. Observe, instruct, and complete objectives of students and/or new employees. On occasion, distribute workload and function as Charge Therapist.
Perform at a mastery level regarding function, application, indication/contraindications for use, troubleshooting, maintaining and monitoring of all oxygen administration devices and patient requiring such. Advise Nursing/Medical staff as to techniques to improve oxygenation status of patient. Execution of rounds procedure to include titration protocols, all applicable documentation, equipment processing and troubleshooting.
Ensure safety and security of medication administration through use of PYXIS and pharmacy oversight/review processes. Possess, demonstrate, and communicate extensive knowledge of aerosolized cardiopulmonary drugs and alternative medication delivery such as Metered Dose Inhalers (MDI) and Dry Powder Inhalers (DPI) as well as drugs infused to maintain hemodynamic stability of the critically ill. Familiar with invasive and noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring techniques and the body's response to therapy, medications, modality manipulation, etc. Identify and respond to adverse effects associated with therapy, medication administration, and/or patient status.
Evaluate and assess patients receiving intermittent as well as continuous therapy. Recognize disease states/medical problems (carbon dioxide retention, pulmonary edema, pneumothorax, atelectasis, acidosis, etc.). Notify physician(s), recommend appropriate adjustments to prescribed regimens. Receive and document verbal orders from physicians related to respiratory therapy modalities. Participate in interdisciplinary care planning specific to respiratory related focuses and interventions. Function as an advanced practitioner in all aspects of Respiratory Care.
Assess patient readiness to wean in accordance with department protocol and patient condition. 'Wean' patient from mechanical ventilation and be able to accurately assess tolerance. Recommend enhancement techniques.
Assess patient and family educational needs as well as barriers to learning ad ensure education is completed and documented in a thorough and accurate manner.
Adeptly institute and maintain mechanical ventilation invasively for continuous use and monitor patients requiring such. Recommend/perform parameter adjustments to optimize ventilation/oxygenation. Possess full knowledge of and be able to converse intelligently with Nursing/Medical Staff regarding all currently used modalities of ventilation/oxygenation and assist in management of patient care individualized according to overall status. Performs detailed and accurate assessment of patient requiring mechanical ventilation and documents same each shift. Transport and support patients requiring mechanical ventilation to ancillary departments for special procedures.
Perform other related duties as directed that correspond to the overall function of this position.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Provisional Respiratory Care Practitioner (PRCP) licensure or letter of acknowledgment of receipt of application for a license as a Provisional Respiratory Care Practitioner or Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) licensure by the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision.
Registration as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
Current CPR (Healthcare Provider).
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
