Full Time 40 hours Grade 094 Imaging Childrens' Hospital Responsibilities General Purpose: A Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is a Diagnostic Ultrasound Professional that is qualified by professional credentialing and academic and clinical experience to provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. Responsible for providing a wide range of highly technical diagnostic exams including but not limited to; abdominal, small parts, GYN, abdominal and peripheral vascular, portable exams, and interventional procedures. The Sonographer is required to rotate through an on-call schedule as well as occasionally fill in other shifts. Specific Responsibilities Subsequent to appropriate training (varies with individual) and completion of required competencies, the Staff Sonographer must be capable of independently performing the various types of exams offered in our department. Must be capable of operating all types of diagnostic equipment available to them, as well as maintaining and monitoring the safe and sanitary condition of this equipment. Prior to each scan, the Sonographer is responsible for obtaining patientâ™sâ™ pertinent clinical and prior imaging data from IDXRAD, medical charts, and by patient interview. Responsible for following the established exam protocols while producing high quality diagnostic images and Doppler data. Upon the completion of the study, each Sonographer is responsible for recording an initial impression on the preliminary worksheets, as well as reviewing the findings with a radiologist and performing additional images when asked to do so. Immediately reports operational problems and equipment failures to supervisor. Each staff Sonographer must participate in an on-call program.When on call, it is the staff memberâ™s responsibility to remain accessible via his/her assigned personal pager or the phone.The on-call Sonographer must report to the hospital within thirty minutes of being notified to do so, or arrange an agreed upon time with the Physician in charge. Teaching, sharing and learning is an essential and requisite duty of sonographers employed within the department. The training of students, residents, and fellows is a mutual and shared responsibility. Develops professional growth by participating in or attending monthly Quality Assurance meetings, as well as reviewing ultrasound journals. Maintains appropriate number of CMEs in order to keep license as well as satisfy accreditation requirements. Sonographers must obtain ARDMS certification in both general and specialty areas that the department practices, or be eligible to sit for the appropriate exam with a future date mutual agreed upon with the supervisor. Keeps up with all hospital and departmental in-services, and completes within the mandated guidelines Willingly accepts portion of the daily workload and demonstrates effective and efficient use ofâœnon-productiveâ time. Maintaining a clean and orderly work area, prepare examination rooms for patient use, and regularly stock exam rooms with supplies. Personal issues or tasks, including phone calls, must be kept to a minimum.Exceptions to this must be approved through the supervisor. Accepts projects and assignments delegated by supervisor in a professional manner. Miscellaneous: On occasion, a staff Sonographer may be called upon to act in a supervisory role. Staff members have an obligation to the department to report for their designated shift on time.Employees should understand the importance of their attendance and its impact on the efficiency of daily operations. It is also the responsibility of the employee to provide their supervisor with advance notice of time off by completing and submitting the necessary paperwork to request vacation or personal time.Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action. Requests for vacation will be granted on a first asked for basis.Up to two staff members can be approved scheduled time-off per day.At least one week of advanced notice is necessary for scheduled time away. It is staff memberâ™s responsibility to monitor their accrued vacation and personal time and to plan accordingly. With the exception ofâœemergenciesâ time off without pay is not granted Staff members must familiarize themselves with both Departmental and University policies and procedures and abide by these standards. Qualifications: A 4 year college education, including related laboratory and/or technical training with certification by the registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, or other nationally recognized professional certifying body; or a 4 year college education in an appropriate science and 2 years of closely related laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
