Education Specialist Tenure-Track
The College of Education at California State University, Fullerton, a nationally recognized Hispanic serving institution (HSI), invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Special Education, for an Assistant/Associate Professor in Special Education. The Department provides exemplary teaching credential and Master degree programs in the areas of Mild/Moderate Disabilities, Moderate/Severe Disabilities and Early Childhood Special Education. The department consists of a dynamic and diverse group of faculty scholar/practitioners who thrive on collaboration and innovative ideas. The Department of Special Education provides programs that are accredited by NCATE and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). The Department works collaboratively with colleagues in the College of Education (this includes the Departments of Educational Leadership, Elementary and Bilingual Education, Literacy and Reading Education, and Secondary Education).

Position We seek a colleague and scholar/practitioner with rich experience in special education for the improvement of instruction for students from diverse communities. Preferred candidates are committed, knowledgeable, and experienced in working with under-represented students and find issues in special education compelling both in research and practice. Responsibilities include teaching special education classes and sharing a variety of tasks with colleagues within the department and across campus including advising students. These encompass teaching, public school student teaching supervision, working with diverse learners, student advisement, supervision of graduate level research, grant development, program development, creative and scholarly activities, university service activities, and collaborations with various community schools and agencies. The faculty member is expected to teach undergraduate/post-baccalaureate and graduate courses in the area of Mild/Moderate and Moderate/Severe disabilities; teach face to face, hybrid (partially online), at school-site locations or at the Irvine campus, and 100% online courses using current technology to teach and/or create course content; engage in a focused agenda of scholarly endeavor; and participate in department, university, community and professional service. Qualifications Required * An earned doctorate in special education or a related area from an accredited institution; ABD’s may be considered, but must earn doctorate prior to the start of the tenure-track appointment; * Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with a wide culturally and ethnically diverse campus community, public schools and community organizations; * Established record of excellence or indication of promise in research, grant writing and publication; and * At least 3 years’ experience teaching children and/or adolescents with special needs from kindergarten to age 21 in a public school or public agency.
Preferred * Successful university level teaching and supervision experience. * Demonstrated collegial teamwork, collaboration, and successful experience with inclusive practices. * Knowledge of research-based best practices in special education. * Expertise in three or more of the following areas: background in communication and language acquisition, assessment, families of students with special needs, reading instruction, strategies instruction, assistive technology, inclusive education and/or general education/special education collaboration for students, English Learners, transition, and co-teaching. * An Education Specialist Teaching Credential or equivalent.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Rank & Salary The position is at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, tenure-track. Salary is competitive and commensurate with rank, experience and qualifications. Periodic salary adjustments are enacted by the state legislature. Moving expenses, start-up funds, and additional teaching in summer and intersession may be available.
