Job Posting: For the SOCCI Prevention and Control (P/C) Program, the Research Manager for the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute (SOCCI) is responsible for the planning, organizing, and managing the daily operations of the P/C research program and ensuring that development is consistent with NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center designation. Works closely with the Faculty Director of P/C to plan and develop the research program in Cancer Prevention and Control. Ensures that the research conducted in the P/C program follows all guidelines mandated by Federal and local requirements including FDA research regulations and the International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH) Good Clinical Practices (GCPs), the Cedars Sinai Institutional Review Board, and the SOCCI Clinical Research Office. Partners with the P/C Principal Investigators and SOCCI leadership to build a robust program in oncology clinical research including prevention and control, epidemiologic studies, and correlative studies. The Research Manager is responsible for onboarding, training, and mentoring new clinical research staff as well as providing ongoing education for staff and through this will build and manage a team of highly skilled and efficient clinical research staff including clinical research coordinators, clinical research associates, data managers, research nurses, and clinical research specialists in an effort to assure compliance with regulatory agencies and increase procedures and efficiencies with the ultimate goal of increasing access and accrual to cancer studies. Serves as the senior on-site manager for the P/C Program for which the SOCCI strategic plan and future direction is based. It is the responsibility of the Research Manager to maintain document templates and guidelines for the conduct of cancer clinical trials and research studies in the Prevention and Control group. The Manager attends local and national meetings assigned and assures positive representation at these meetings. The Research Manager will complete other projects, as assigned. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Within the SOCCI Prevention and Control program, represents the interests of the faculty in inter- and intra-institutional research projects; provides expertise for research collaborations
Maintains excellent relationships with colleagues locally, nationally, and internationally; has excellent, productive relationship with National Institutes of Health and other funding agencies
Has direct supervision and oversight of research staff within the program including training and development
Attends national meetings and conferences and identifies potential collaborators and research sponsors
Participates in the research and academic activities including departmental strategic planning
Participates in the philanthropic development of the department to support research efforts
Has joint final oversight of proposals with the Director of P/C
Provide direct management, mentorship, performance management, and supervision of all research staff in the SOCCI Prevention and Genetics group, including work load distribution.
Coordinate SOCCI department orientation and training for research staff
Human resources efforts devoted to posting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of new staff
Partner with SOCCI leadership and principal investigators to build a robust program in oncology clinical research with focus on non-therapeutic research developing strategic plans
Work with SOCCI leadership to develop infrastructure and staffing models to expand the portfolio and accruals to non-therapeutic oncology studies including prevention and control, epidemiologic studies, and correlative studies
Provide support staffing models, mentorship, and program development for the Prevention and Control group
Management of non-therapeutic portfolio assessment and structuring of portfolio, identifying areas of strength/growth and seeking out new opportunities
Qualification Requirements/Preferences: Education Certifications/Licensure Experience Physical Abilities FEducation: Bachelor's degree required, Master's or Nursing degree preferred Certification/License: ACRP/SoCRA (or equivalent) certification preferred. Experience: Seven (7) years minimum of directly related experience in managing clinical research.
