GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Network Engineer is responsible for managing network systems infrastructure for Framingham State University, personally or through subordinates. The Network Engineer will provide hardware installation, systems troubleshooting, network monitoring, security implementation and routine infrastructure maintenance.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for maintenance and configuration of LAN devices related to network connectivity including: routers, switches, hubs and wireless access points.
Responsible for maintaining Internet connectivity and WAN devices including: Extreme Controllers and Fortinet firewalls/routers.
Responsible for 2nd and 3rd tier troubleshooting of network failures and 1st tier backup troubleshooting of VoIP systems.
Supports network connected peripherals, including but not limited to HR time clocks, telephones, and facilities related management equipment.
Maintains network monitoring and management software and utilities including but not limited to FSU NAC systems.
Provides systems, software and firmware upgrades.
Oversees user account administration and access levels to networking systems in accordance with University guidelines and industry best practice standards.
Provides configuration and backups of core networking systems and devices.
Analyzes and implements network security measures and procedures in compliance with University policies and applicable laws and regulations.
Participates in development and documentation of overall policies and procedures related to the University network and systems.
Provides project planning, documentation and implementation to include proposals, updates and status reporting for the deployment of technologies on campus.
Supervises all aspects of systems administration related to network infrastructure and may coordinate the duties of student network technicians.
Inventories and documents systems and software within functional area of responsibility.
Ensures compliance with hardware and software license and maintenance agreements.
Coordinates and interacts with outside vendors and service provider.s
Assumes additional responsibilities as may be determined by the Network and Telecom Manager, Director of Systems and Network Services or Chief Information Technology Officer.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, benefits-eligible position in the APA bargaining unit at the rank of Staff Assistant. The salary range is $65,000-$70,000.

In-depth network architecture knowledge of both WAN and LAN technologies
A minimum of 5 years of experience in an IT/Network environment, with a preference for some experience within higher education
Experience in router and switch installation, configuration, and operation
Experience in wireless networking installation, configuration, and operation
In depth understanding of firewalls and network security measures
In depth understanding of TCP/IP and network protocols
Some project management experience
In depth understanding of Extreme communication switches, routers, wireless access points and management software
Experience with Fortinet firewall devices and software
Bachelor's degree in computer information systems or related field
