We currently seek a Managing Editor to join our Communications team!
Under the direction of the Executive Editor, responsible for managing the day-to-day editorial operations of the Academy of General Dentistry’s newsmagazine, AGD Impact. Manages AGD Impact email proxies and phone calls; monitors magazine section of the AGD website; and supports the work of the Communications Council. Assists with organization activities, including the editing of marketing and public relations pieces, and special projects, as directed.
The Managing Editor will oversee Day-to-Day Operations. Support organizational editorial needs and support the needs of the council and committees.
The qualified candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English or communications with a minimum of eight years of professional experience as an editor, including at least three years of management experience working with authors, reviewers, and suppliers and supervising administrative and creative staff.
The Managing Editor must be able to communicate authoritatively, effectively and tactfully with AGD officers, members and staff and present a positive image of AGD through these communications. Must have excellent knowledge of the Associated Press Stylebook. Must possess exceptional Microsoft Office skills, including various Web and publishing software and ability and willingness to learn new software and programs as required. Must possess social media skills. Must be flexible, adaptable, detail-oriented, able to work on a wide variety of tasks independently and in a team structure, understand meaning of confidentiality, solve problems creatively and effectively and make sound judgments. Must possess effective time management, be able to manage and disseminate assignments to colleagues and authors, set priorities, work independently, and have a high level of initiative and creativity. Must be able to adhere to tight deadlines, work with others to maintain those deadlines, and ensure that all projects are completed on time. Must possess good organizational skills, excellent customer service skills, and excellent oral and written communications skills with good spelling, proofreading, and grammatical skills. Must be able to work additional hours and travel as needed.
