We currently seek a Associate Editor to join our Communications team!
The associate editor, AGD Impact, brainstorms, sources, writes, edits, proofreads and fact-checks content for AGD’s monthly newsmagazine, AGD Impact, with the objective of accurately informing and engaging the magazine’s readership. He or she also serves as a researcher of complex dentistry trends and topics, and is both big picture-focused and detail-oriented, with proven success in a deadline-driven environment.
The associate editor will remain abreast of dental industry news and trends, as well as magazine publishing best practices; establishes and maintain correspondence with AGD Impact contributors, as well as AGD’s Editor, Associate Editor and Communications Council members'; assist the managing editor, AGD Impact, with brainstorming and securing timely and newsworthy AGD Impact content for publication; research complex dentistry- and health care-related topics; interview AGD members and subject-matter experts and writes in-depth news and feature article.
The qualified candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in journalism or English; At least three to five years of professional experience as a copy editor, magazine and/or newspaper reporter and/or writer. Must have an expert working knowledge of the AP Stylebook and magazine/newspaper writing.
Must be a strong writer with proven success in reporting and content creation. Must be proficient in AP Style editing and be able to learn AGD house style rules quickly. Must exercise news judgement in all editorial decisions. Must possess the ability to meet all deadlines, set priorities and work independently. Must be detail-oriented, flexible and adaptable, as well as able to work on a wide variety of tasks independently and in a team structure. Must possess exceptional PC skills in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel. Must be able and willing to learn new software and programs as required. Must possess a high level of initiative and creativity, good organizational skills excellent customer service skills, and excellent oral and written communications skills. Must be able to communicate authoritatively, effectively and tactfully with AGD staff members, officers and members. Must present a positive image of AGD through all items of communication.
