The Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists' (CRES) Hospital will provide state-of-the-art surgical, imaging, diagnostic, and rehabilitation services to enhance equine health. The hospital is located within walking distance to Belmont Park, the world's premier Thoroughbred horse-racing facility. At CRES, veterinarians aspire to assimilate knowledge gained on all fronts – at the track, in the show ring, at the research bench, and in the hospital – to deliver paradigm-shifting veterinary medical care. This is a service-oriented environment and the position requires exceptional people skills and all interactions should be friendly, professional, and respectful at all times. Must acquire a strong understanding of CRES services, procedures and policies to provide informative, accurate and customer-driven communication between the clinicians, clients, staff, referring veterinarians and the general public. As part of the administrative team, this position plays an integral role in ensuring daily operations run efficiently and that we provide an excellent customer experience; this requires a team player that can adapt to changing business needs and work closely with the Practice Manager and clinical team handling a variety of administrative tasks and duties, including, but not limited to:
Ensure clients are greeted promptly and professionally;
Schedule client appointments, gather patient information, enter into database;
Ensure payment expectations are relayed to clients, estimates are provided, and deposits are received;
Ensure accurate posting of all daily financials, payments, deposits, refunds, etc., paying close attention to cash control and potential loss exposure;
Use sound judgment when dealing with emergency situations and relaying pertinent information to both clients and CRES staff;
Ensure strict adherence to University policies and procedures.
This position supports a hospital with 24/7 operations and may need to work holidays, weekends or evening shifts. Daily work schedule may vary depending on business and staffing needs.
Required Qualifications: Formal training beyond HS of 6 months to one year with 2-4 years of relevant customer service in retail sales, banking or reception/clerical work required. Must be a team player and work collaboratively in a fast-paced, demanding environment handling multiple tasks simultaneously, while paying close attention to cash control details. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Ability to successfully and confidently perform in a demanding, fast-paced team environment, as well as foster positive relationships with an array of clientele, providing excellent customer service and demonstrating a professional demeanor at all times. Ensure accuracy and strong attention to detail as well as strong priority setting and time management skills. Excellent telephone and customer service skills a must. Must have basic knowledge of MS Office software and be willing to learn new systems as necessary to carry out job responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a hospital environment. Medical terminology helpful, but not required. Experience with electronic medical records. Cashiering experience with high level of cash control highly desirable. General accounting knowledge or relevant experience/coursework preferred.
