Contribute to the planning, implementation, and communication of the activities of the Sterling Morton Library including selection, arrangement, description, reference, and outreach. Facilitate the production, organization and curation of a growing collection of digital resources serving visitors, staff, and the education and scientific communities. Initiate interactions with and education of a variety of Library audiences, including staff and the general public. Responsible for leading the acquisition, organization, cataloging, processing, care and accessibility of archival collections, as well as maintenance of the Arboretum’s institutional archives. This position is funded in whole or in part by grant or other restricted funding and is expected to conclude by October 2019.

ALA accredited Master’s degree in Library Science required. 1+ years experience preferred. Experience with archival practice preferably with a focus on processing. Knowledge of digital asset management including the ingest, organization, storage, and retrieval of digital collections required. Knowledge of archives principles and practices in both digital and analog formats required. Knowledge of current and emerging metadata and cataloging standards and relevant controlled vocabularies required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google applications strongly preferred.
Strong organizational and communications skills and the ability to facilitate and initiate collaboration. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse library users, staff and patrons. Public service oriented individual who is able to interact with interest, tact, patience and engagement. Ability to work flexibly and creatively in a changing environment. Interest and knowledge of trees, horticulture, or natural history.
