In July 2017, the NYU School of Medicine received a major philanthropic commitment dedicated to improving the life course trajectories of children and the wellbeing of their families. The newly endowed Bezos Family Foundation Professor will lead the conceptualization, design, implementation and study of this discipline-bridging initiative for the thousands of children cared for at NYU Langone Hospital - Brooklyn and the Family Health Centers at NYU Langone, in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. This position offers an extraordinary opportunity to improve the health and opportunities of children born into this racial/ethnically diverse and vibrant community, and to improve the health and well-being of their caregivers. The successful candidate will work with colleagues across the institution to help create, evaluate, and disseminate a model for how healthcare delivery systems and community organizations can work together to attain the highest level of health for all.
Sunset Park, a community of immigrants, embodies the social, economic, and linguistic diversity of New York City. Almost half of the residents are foreign-born, and 80% are enrolled in Medicaid. NYU Langone Health – Brooklyn has broad and deep community ties, with over 5,000 births projected by 2018, nine Federally Qualified Health Centers, 33 school-based medical, mental health, and dental clinics, and an array of community-based programs that serve over 30,000 families, seniors, and homeless people annually. The Bezos Family Foundation Professor and program staff will also help build a Department of Population Health core based in Brooklyn to advance system- and community-level analytics and evaluation.
In this unique context, NYU Langone Health invites nominations and applications for an exceptional and highly accomplished faculty investigator to lead a portfolio of efforts that bridge clinical, home and community settings to improve children’s health and school readiness as well as the health and well-being of mothers and families. For this position, NYU Langone Health seeks a leader with skills to manage and guide a multi-constituent initiative in a highly diverse urban setting. The successful applicant for the newly endowed Bezos Family Foundation Professorship should hold a relevant MD or PhD degree, have national-level experience and expertise in population health and child/maternal/family health and development, demonstrate an ability to build collaborative partnerships, be an open and persuasive communicator, show sustained commitment to community partnership and translational science, and have a significant record of extramural research funding.

Through its research, education and service, the Department seeks to advance population health and health equity. Core areas of Department strength include healthful behavior change, early childhood health and development, comparative effectiveness and decision science, behavioral economics and health policy, community health improvement, healthcare delivery science, epidemiology, biostatistics and medical ethics.

Core qualifications include: excellent record of quality scholarship and extramural funding as PI; proven leadership ability in academic and community-engaged settings; and expertise in population health improvement and measurement of key outcomes among children, mothers, and families. Research experience in clinical settings preferred. For physician investigator candidates, board certification or eligibility and NY State licensure or eligibility is required.
