Description About the Position: The Tennessee Education Research Alliance (TERA) is a research-policy-practice partnership between the Tennessee Department of Education and Peabody College at Vanderbilt University, housed at the Peabody Research Institute. Powered by a top-quality longitudinal data set and a commitment with the state to explore key questions of state policy and practice, TERA is poised to be a national leader in practice-focused research. TERA conducts research on questions of greatest urgency to the state and ensures that actionable findings are brought to the attention of policymakers and practitioners to whom they are important. TERA aims to directly and immediately inform Tennessee's education policy and practice. The Research Operations Manager will be a critical member of the TERA team and will lead the research operations for the organization. A successful candidate will have superior project management skills, a keen understanding of academic research, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a desire to create products that bridge the gap between research and practice. As a Research Operations Manager, you will manage the day-to-day operations of TERA, including data access, logistics, communications, and research project timelines. You will also assist with management of budgets and preparation of grant applications and grant reports, as well as report to the Executive Director and work in partnership with the Faculty Director to create key research products. Additional Responsibilities: Manage research operations. Track progress of internal and external research projects and report to Executive Director, steering committee, and advisory council. Track approval of research proposals, grant data access as approved. Manage research agreements, including all contracts and affidavits. Manage survey administration. Assist with personnel management including approval of timesheets and management of graduate students as needed. Assist with research development. Assist with development of reports and presentations, including formatting, data visualization, and copy-editing. Assist with preparation of research syntheses and briefs on topics across the TERA research agenda, especially focused on making connections across research topics and studies. Assist with manuscript preparation for leading academic journals. Lead/Assist in writing research grants. Manage TERA communications. Manage all social media and online communications, including website design and maintenance, Twitter, and newsletters. Coordinate data visualization and report production with internal and external designers. Plan and execute dissemination of research, including through website, social media, and newsletters. Plan and execute research symposia and conferences. Assist with grant and budget management. Assist with budget planning and management. Assist with tracking of expenditures. Assist in identifying potential funders and preparing grants including grant writing. Assist in writing of grant reports and management of grant timelines and deliverables. Maintain open communication between TERA and partners within and outside Vanderbilt. Open contact as needed with principal investigator, collaborating faculty and staff, academic departments and schools, and key university offices. Open contact as needed with the Tennessee Department of Education, sponsoring agencies and/or cooperating facilities, collaborating professionals, and vendors.
