Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead university wide information analytics projects, developing comprehensive project plans, including work breakdown structure, schedule creation, resource plans, budgeting, communications, and synthesizing of plans across multiple projects
Prioritize projects with IT staff and allocate appropriate IT resources
Manage, guide, mentor, motivate, and lead campus personnel toward accomplishment of project goals. Model persistent and professional pursuit of all project deliverables and documentation.
Proactively communicate with all stake holders regarding project management status and deliverables; clearly and articulately convey project constraints, risks, and plans to all levels of audiences.
Lead efforts to consolidate reporting platforms and provide vision for ASU information analytics roadmap of central repository of electronic institutional data.
Data Management and Access:
Organize and convene appropriate governance structure, including data steward council of vice chancellors to set policies and procedures regarding business definitions of data, access and usage of data, as well as a data management committee to oversee cohesive campus implementation of data steward council policies.
Develop, publish and enforce policies and procedures governing institutional data collection and to coordinate data requirements throughout the university.
Develop and manage a comprehensive dictionary of computerized institutional data and build and maintain broad awareness of available data and associated tools and services.
Model institutional information flow. Improve and streamline processes regarding data flow and data quality to improve data accuracy, viability and value.
Collaborate with campus leadership and end users to identify needs opportunities for improved data management and delivery.
Act as enterprise data quality manager, in appropriate partnership, to ensure that data quality issues are identified, publicized, and addressed
Directs data naming, documentation and usage processes in information system planning.
Ensure that data are reliable and can be confidently used, that values are consistent across different reports and dashboards, and over time (history); Ensure that data can be integrated across systems, organizational structure, and time (history)
Provision data in such a way that people can access it, either directly as users, or indirectly through connected systems; ensure that data are provided in types and formats that are usable.
Provide documentation, tools, & support so that the data are understandable, and that questions about meaning and derivation can be addressed.
Work with security teams to identify and implement user and administrator security for data.
Plan and implement the overall analytics and business intelligence strategy to provide secure, efficient, and consistent employee access to data, fact-based decision making and ad hoc analysis and insight generation.
Champion the value and effective use of data and information.
Build and maintain effective partnerships with business owners and data stewards, Institutional Research, Assessment and Planning (IRAP), enterprise and distributed technical organizations, security teams, and functional offices around operational data management.
Recruit, develop and retain a high performing team responsible for delivery of information analytics, data analysis, and reporting solutions.
Ensure information analytics reporting frameworks, tools, and data warehouse comply with existing infrastructure requirements and integrate with security systems, network infrastructure, and other business systems.
Provide support structure so that users are trained and supported in the use of data and associated tools
Monitor and expand data warehouse, information analytics applications and related software systems as needed to assure adequate security, performance and capacity.
Research new processes and procedures to enhance software capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications are: Masters in analytics, informatics, computer science or management information systems Experience with Blackboard Analytics Student module Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience with information analytics reporting tools Experience with Pyramid reporting tools and Microsoft SQLserver Reporting Services Knowledge of information analytics solutions and implementations within higher education and ability to see, articulate, and help shape the future of information analytics Strong knowledge of Data warehouse design methodology in a higher education context such as Kimball or Inmon or equivalent methodology. Thorough understanding of data modeling for data warehouse Outstanding background in data analysis tools and methods, familiarity with ETL processes and experience working with highly skilled quantitative/statistical analysts Strong Database skills including design, Oracle, and SQL.
