Full Time 40 hours Grade 051 Marketing Med Ctr Schedule 8 AM-5 PM Responsibilities Position Overview Reporting to the Director, Creative Services, and working in close collaboration with the Senior Designers, Marketing Managers and Coordinators, the Graphic Designer helps to conceive, develop, and manage the production of marketing and communications materials produced by the URMC Marketing department, and external vendors. The Graphic Designer ensures that projects are delivered on time, within budget, adheres to the highest possible standards, and meets customer expectations while conveying a consistent strong brand message for URMC and affiliates. The Graphic Designer works in a collaborative team environment with designers, writers, content providers, and clients to create brochures, newsletters, video and multimedia, campaign communications, event materials and signage, ads, Web sites, presentations, and other communications materials. Multi-tasking and organizational skills are critical, as is the ability to develop detailed project schedules, project estimates, resource plans, status reports and track key project milestones and adjust project plans and/or resources to meet the needs of customers. The Graphic Designer performs these duties in a professional and positive manner, and demonstrates integrity, good judgment, and the ability to work well with a variety of people and styles. Principal Accountabilities Under general direction of the Director of Creative Services and with considerable latitude for exercising creativity: Graphic Design Designs, or oversees the design, of newsletters, illustrations, brochures, physician access guides, sell sheets, presentations, graphs, charts, and other projects Works with clients and vendors to produce design materials in support of major URMC marketing strategies working with graphic design software programs including, but not limited to, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Powerpoint, Premiere Pro and Acrobat Consults with clients about ideas and design elements to be presented in visual form Consults with supervisor and client about interpretation of clientâ™s needs, taking into account aesthetics, budget and specifications for production Designs and/or directs the design of layouts for marketing material, combining visual elements and techniques, such as illustration, typography, color, format, photography, and other art forms Builds relationships with communicators (writers, designers, photographers, etc.) working in other parts of the Medical Center and University Negotiates with printers and other vendors and assists in furnishing clients with cost estimates Oversees execution and delivery of final project to client satisfaction Independently consults with clients within URMC and manages design projects of limited scope. With limited supervision, assists in same for programs of larger scale, such as URMC brand campaign, HH and other affiliate brand campaigns Relatively independently, develops design concepts to meet strategic and fiscal objectives on projects of limited scope through consultations with clients to interpret their needs. Such objectives include building productive, lasting internal relationships with all levels of URMC to include Senior Leadership and faculty to develop depth of understanding of priority programs and projects, analysis of all departmental materials, tracking of related materials, web searches to gain an understanding of comparative national programs and the like. With limited supervision and in consultation with the Director of Creative Services considers URMC branding and logo guidelines and graphic and style standards on all design projects and acts as a resource and advisor to department on these guidelines and standards. General Communications and Project Management Through meetings and discussions, assists with the development and production of design documents and PowerPoint presentations Through in-depth meetings and consultations with all of URMC at all levels, to include Senior Leadership, aids all of marketing with job responsibilities to ensure all projects meet their deadlines Under close supervision and through in-depth meetings and conversations, develops project specific deadlines to meet budget guidelines, assists to prioritize and plan short-term and long-term workload, and suggests course of action for all projects Develop and manage detailed project schedules, project estimates, resource plans, status reports and track key project milestones and adjust project plans and/or resources to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, adhere to the highest possible standards and meet or exceed customer expectations Other Participates in the activities of appropriate professional organizations, establishing relationships with staff in comparable institutions to participate in information exchange, professional development activities, special projects, etc. Support URMC senior leadership with special projects as needed Other duties as assigned Qualifications: Bachelorâ™s degree with major in graphic design or its equivalent and 2 years of professional experience in graphic design. Ability and desire to be self-sufficient and seek out knowledge and information. Demonstrated excellence in managing multiple projects simultaneously with thoroughness and precision in a complex environment. Skills and Abilities Proficiency and high degree of technical skill with a variety of software programs including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Acrobat, Premiere Pro, Microsoft Office, with advanced PowerPoint skills and database experience Ability to write and design for print or Web A passion and knowledge of design, fonts, paper, color, Macs, and all things creative Experience with all types of print production including digital printing, offset printing, wide format and other specialty printing techniques Outstanding writing and verbal communications skills.
