Lead Certified Poison Information Specialist-(170001DY)
University of Maryland Baltimore, the Maryland Poison Center under theSchool of Pharmacy has an opportunity available for a Lead Certified Poison Information Specialist who will haveresponsibility for implementation of thePoison Center's Professional Education Program.
The position requires working withvarious education providers throughout the state to help train nurses,pharmacists, physicians, physician assistants, and first responders onpoisoning and overdose patient management. The successful candidate musthave the ability to rapidly integrate large amounts of information, be able to effectivelycommunicate complex content quickly and efficiently to a wide range oflearners, to be able to identify likely causes for patients' symptoms. TheLead Specialist should be able to provide independent decisions for the majority of overdose cases but does haveaccess to resources in the Maryland Poison Center as well as other experts intoxicology. The Specialist is expected to be flexible with work schedulesthat include weekend, holiday, rotating shift work, on-call, and extendedshifts.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains Maryland Poison Center's professional education outreach efforts.
Provides support for MPC surveillance program.
Provides emergency triage and treatment information over the phone and document telephone interactions using MPC standard format.
Provides administrative support to the Maryland Poison Center.
Assists in the educational mission of the Maryland Poison Center with an emphasis on professional education and outreach.
Develops content for and complies with requirements for continuing education for health professionals.
Serves as a liaison between the Maryland Poison Center (MPC) and city, county, and local fire departments/first responders.
Produces and deploys electronic educational content for the MPC (e.g., Toxtidbits, Antidote Fact Sheets, etc.)
Develops content for MPC website.
Produces content for MPC Professional Education Twitter account.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:Bachelor'sdegree in pharmacy OR Bachelor's degree in Nursing
Experience:Five(5) years working as a certified specialist in a poisoncenter.
Licensure and Certification:Ableto secure and retain an active State of Maryland Pharmacist or Registered Nurselicense for employment and Certificationby the American Association of Poison Control Centers as a Specialist in PoisonInformation.
Other:Weekend, holiday, rotating shift work, on-call and overtime may be required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Solid understanding of pharmacology; solid understanding of medications, familiarity with common medication calculations (e.g., determining total mg/kg exposures based on patient information and history, doing basic percent calculations, etc.)
Excellent communication skills including public speaking and writing and presentation skills
Strong clinical experience in managing poisoning and overdose patients.
Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people who may have a wide range of educational backgrounds
Ability to be flexible with work schedules
Ability to work with computers and other computer-related technologies
Ability to work independently to meet the professional education mission of the MPC
Ability to create educationallyappropriate goals and objectives for a wide range of trainees.
