Department/College Description Information and Technology Services(ITS) is committed to serving the University's information and technology needs. We provide design, development, and support for centralized administrative applications, technology infrastructure, and client computing, as well as advice and support for a wide variety of other information technology needs. ITS' application Development team is responsible for the implementation of third party, custom, and web applications that are used by prospective students, current students, faculty, staff and other members of the RIT community.
Detailed Job Description Establish and maintain strategic relationships with various business partners. Meet with partners, as necessary, to gather and/or clarify requirements associated with an assigned task. Develop appropriate documentation of analysis requirements, design specifications, test scripts, etc. Work with development team to define appropriate technical solution and, when necessary, coordinate implementation of solution. Leverage development experience when necessary. Test and implement new application components, such as reports, batch processes, data extract programs, data import programs, and general enhancements for institute-wide web applications and related application environments. Provide both technical and functional troubleshooting of software bugs and performance issues related to business partner applications. Follow department policies on the project management and software development lifecycle, source code control, and change management. Interface directly with end users, developers and other IT staff. Work effectively as a team member and individually
Required Minimum Qualifications
5-7 Years Design and development experience with proven success in a variety of technical projects 3-5 Years Analysis and design experience with proven success as technical leader in a variety of technical projects 3-5 Years Practical experience with the successful configuration, implementation, and maintenance of web-based applications is required 1-2 Years Experience with mobile software development (native and/or responsive web) technologies 3-5 Years Experience with software development and configuration management methodologies 3-5 Years Experience with prevalent relational database systems in an information systems environment
Ability to work directly with end users to identify and document functional requirements is required
Ability to translate end-user requirements into effective systems designs required
Practical experience with the configuration, implementation, and maintenance of web-based applications required
Experience with formal software development lifecycle methodologies required
Knowledge and experience in applications development using Java IDE tools required
Development experience interfacing to relational databases required
Excellent analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills are required
Excellent communication skills (written and oral) are required
Ability to coordinate activities and facilitate meetings with business partners, technical staff, and/or customers is required
Ability to analyze complex business problems and evaluate the functional and technical impact of potential solutions (required)
Ability to present complex technical concepts to partners, staff, and customers in meaningful and effective manners (required)
Ability to assume a key contact/leadership role for assigned functional area(s) (required)
Ability to coach and mentor less-experienced staff members both technically and functionally (required)
Ability to learn new technical, functional, and business concepts and adapt to new environments is required
Ability to achieve most objectives with general direction and minimal managerial guidance being required
