NETWORK SUPPORT TECHNICIAN (Information Technology Consultant-Career)

Primary Duties: Under general supervision of the Director of Computing and Communications Services, and under the lead work direction of the Network Manager, the incumbent will participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team that provides communication network support and services to the campus community. The incumbent is responsible for the effective and timely resolution of service requests and problem reports, and will act as a primary point of contact for IT Support Services escalated service requests. The incumbent will work with network analysts, operating systems analysts and other technical staff to escalate and resolve support requests. The incumbent will identify recurring or endemic problems in the network environment, and work with network analysts and other technical staff to document these problems and propose solutions.
The incumbent also improves the support of network, monitoring and logging services, by researching, implementing and developing support materials to allow service desk or other technical staff to more effectively troubleshoot problems and submit requests for services. This may take the form of developing technical or procedural documentation, performing small-group trainings, or face-to-face individual engagements.
The incumbent may also act as a field service technician, participating in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network equipment and services throughout the campus. In this role they may be involved in wireless surveys, inventory and records collection, verifying user experiences, and hands-on troubleshooting of network devices or endpoints.
Requires the equivalent to a bachelors degree in Computer science or Related Degree
Equivalent to two years of full-time professional experience of relevant experience.
The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

A valid California Drivers License must be maintained throughout employment in this position, as well as successful completion and continued compliance of CSU Defensive Driving Course.
PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS: lncumbent/Applicant will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. This position alternates between remaining in a stationary position operating a personal computer for long periods of time and frequently moving about inside the office. Requires the need to travel across campus to other office buildings. Occasional stooping/bending may be needed to verify/connect network cabling, such as under a desk. Occasional heavy lifting for equipment installations (up to 50 pounds). Occasional use of a ladder may be needed to access wireless devices.
WORKENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a typical office environment and equipment rooms. Will operate standard office equipment. Position involves frequent interaction with staff and faculty. Will be required to travel between campus offices to perform duties.
