Pending budgetary approval, The Program for the Study of Religion is seeking applications for a temporary lecturer position to teach one required religion course geared to undergraduates during the 2017-2018 academic year. We are seeking applicants for temporary lecturer position for Religion 101, Tools and Methods in the Study of Religion, in Spring 2018.
Religion 101 provides an advanced introduction to assumptions and norms that shape the study of religion as an academic field. The course explores significant debates, tools and methods used for professional research within the field. It covers key topics discussed by influential thinkers in the field of religious study (Frazer, Douglas, Freud, Geertz, Marx, Weber, etc.), focusing on how these thinkers understood and studied religion in their distinct historical contexts. Religion 101 also looks at recent approaches in studying religion from postmodernism to postcolonialism. Some other key topics studies include secularism and secularization.
The candidate should be capable of teaching in religious studies and demonstrate excellence in teaching, as well as professional recognition. Qualifications include Ph.D. or ABD in religious studies and strong or potential accomplishment in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion, and in advancing UC San Diego's commitment to achieving excellence and diversity.

Proof of authorization to work in the U.S. will be required to employment (Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1985).
