To develop and direct for the College of Dentistry a program and processes for faculty, research staff, doctoral and postdoctoral students to learn and perform scholarly writing and editing skills. This program/position will direct the successful submission and acceptance of scholarly work in peer-reviewed scientific journals in specific specialties; as well as direct the development of a program for grant writing and editing skills of research proposals for external funding initiatives. Develop and disseminate information to College of Dentistry faculty; predoctoral, postdoctoral, and prospective students; staff; and alumni, by providing, procuring resources, running database searches, gathering oral health research and outreach survey data, manage and produce the collegiate weekly newsletter, alumni newsletter, and direct other writing for Collegiate Administration. Manage and direct updating/revising the collegiate Web site and Intranet, and manage collegiate outreach materials at national/international dental research meetings.
Operational and Financial Management
Direct COD scholarly writing program.
Provide scientific editorial direction to faculty and staff for peer-reviewed manuscripts and grants.
Manage several areas of the collegiate Web site and IntraDent.
Direct interlibrary loan access for COD faculty, staff, and students.
Work on research abstracts for meetings and edit the research booklets and research day articles
Present at Collegiate meetings to instruct faculty and staff on topics relevant to area of responsibility.
Plan, develop, and direct instruction to students, staff and faculty in using PubMed, Search engines, EndNote
Plan, develop and direct workshops in manuscript writing, grant writing, and publishing.
Work with Associate Dean for Research and Collegiate Dean's Administrative group to plan, develop, and implement a program that enhances faculty and resident skills in writing scholarly documents and publications.
Communication and Outreach
Manage and provide collection of faculty and staff information for publication, development and advancement
Serve on collegiate committees
Present programs at faculty retreats and other meetings
Serve as editor directing Collegiate DSB weekly newsletter publication
Serve as Collegiate editor of the Iowa Dental Journal
Responsible for managing Collegiate Profiles within University and Collegiate protocols
Develop and write story suggestions and information, including photos to the Dental Link writer
Direct the presentation of the COD educational and research exhibits at the AADR/IADR local and national/international meetings and manage the staffing needs of same
Develop brochures for faculty research projects and research discoveries
Supervise designated staff assigned to program director
