The Wireless Network Engineer reports to the Manager of Network Operations. Responsible for the hands-on management and troubleshooting of HP/Aruba and Cisco based, campus-wide wireless data network; including support for Aruba Airwave & ClearPass, switching configuration and support, network event correlation and reporting, packet capture analysis, and Incident Management and notification processes for HUIT Network Services. The Wireless Network Engineer with work on building projects to survey and design wireless configurations in renovations and new construction. The Wireless Network Engineer assists with training and mentoring colleagues and will lead event support activities and support the ticket queue. He/she will also provide technical assistance to Network Operations, Network Engineering, Architecture, Security, and Systems teams, and serves as the primary escalation point for NOC personnel. This position holds responsibility for code revision control of wireless infrastructure. Must be able to clearly articulate technical matters to non-technical customers.
The Wireless Network Engineer spends the majority of their time on operations project management, from leading smaller lifecycle upgrades to supporting larger engineering/architecture projects. They will consult with the customers on scope of work and then build a proposal with bill of materials for the project. Once the customer signs off on the project they will put together a schedule and work with the vendors to order product. During that time, they will direct the technicians on the process and requirements of the project. The engineer manages the workflow of the project start to finish. The wireless network engineer provides ongoing technical, and customer support for the campus wide data network consisting of twelve schools, over 700 departments, and more than 20,000 users. This individual is the primary escalation point for Network Operations, and serves as the primary technical liaison between Network Operations and Engineering. Other responsibilities include monitoring the network for performance issues or outages, proactively recommending preventive maintenance, adjusting ACLs and firewalls, providing support for VPN, switch configuration, documentation updates, DNS and DHCP updates, 802.1Q adjustments, communication and notification, and all other level II troubleshooting and support.

BA or equivalent experience
Significant progressively responsible work experience to include at least 3 years' experience working with wireless technology
3+ Years of Hands-on experience in Aruba Wireless environment and troubleshooting
Experience in Aruba Airwave & ClearPass platforms
Experience in Cisco Wireless Controllers
Experience with wireless survey tools for new buildings and outdoor wireless coverage
Excellent Knowledge on Wireless Controller and Access Points implementation and troubleshooting
WLAN Security in the areas of authentication, encryption, & Wireless Sniffers,
Responsible for writing and executing test plans/cases for installation/configuration
Aruba certified ACMA, ACMP, ACMX
Wireless certifications CWNA, CWNP
Clear understanding of IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi standards and related components
Physical Requirements: Position requires continuous walking around campus and standing in confined spaces for extended time periods as well as the ability to lift 40 lbs.
