Works with the PSS Managers, Capital Project Manager, architect, General Contractor, third party environmental professionals, and internal EHS groups to identify environmental health and safety risks for projects, mitigate those risks, and ensure compliance with local, State and Federal regulations.
Conducts site visits of construction and remediation sites to observe and assess compliance with University requirements and specifications. The observations include abatement practices, stormwater management, pest control, hazardous waste storage, dewatering, and general compliance with EHS specifications. Generates reports, communicates findings to Project Managers, tracks corrective action, and assembles trending reports.
Provide oversight of third party environmental consultants regarding lead-based paint, PCBs, asbestos, soil and groundwater management and other environmental program.
Assists with the development and implementation of environmental and safety construction support programs by performing regulatory research, writing program documentation, producing field inspection tools and training materials.
Prepares and reviews request for proposals, qualification packages and EHS related construction submittals for compliance with specific EHS criteria.
Reviews contractor submittals including SDS, Soil Management Plans, Health and Safety Plans, imported soil chemical analysis, Waste Management Plans and other submittals.
Reviews architectural design documents and specifications to identify potential issues related to EHS concerns during construction and building operation.
Build and maintain relationships with existing and new Project Managers and key stakeholders.
Develop working knowledge of whole EH&S Program: Understand the structure and function of all areas of EH&S. Maintain familiarity with, and participate in emergency cross training procedures.
This position provides technical and field assistance to the Project Support Services Group (PSS). The position assists with management of Environmental Health and Safety issues during design, construction and commissioning of new and renovated buildings.

Bachelor's degree required, with at least 4-5 years' experience with environmental remediation and construction. The candidate must possess strong working knowledge of all federal, state, and local occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations. The person must be skilled in interpretation of requirements and implementation of occupational safety, health, and environmental compliance programs. OSHA 40 hour HAZWOPER training and current OSHA 8 hour refresher required.

Expertise in Microsoft products, including Outlook, Word, Access, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint. Candidate must attain expertise in use of other common scheduling and communications software in use at Harvard.
Participates in EHS Emergency Response Program on rotating basis, as a cross-trained EHS staff member, will be required to carry a mobile phone and respond to emergencies during non-business hours.
Must have sufficient mobility, dexterity, and endurance to perform emergency response activities and field work involving inspections, emergency response and related functions. Must be able to frequently walk up and down stairs, occasionally use a ladder, ascend scaffolding, or enter confined spaces.

A Master's degree in a technical or scientific discipline related to environmental disciplines is preferred.
