In November 2015, First Lady of New York City Chirlane McCray launched Thrive NYC: A Mental Health Roadmap for all, to identify unmet mental health needs across the city and detail strategic new programs and policies that will improve prevention and treatment citywide. Connections to Care (C2C) is the largest public-private partnership in Thrive NYC. Safe Horizon was one of the 15 community based organizations that received a grant to partner with mental health providers (MHPS). Through this partnership, the MHPs will train social service staff at Safe Horizon to deliver MI; Mental Health First Aid; screening for mental and behavioral health problems; and psychoeducation.
As part of C2C, Safe Horizon is seeking a Motivational Interviewing trainer to offer high quality MI training and technical assistance to the staff. Consultant tasks include conducting multiple trainings for a subset shelter staff in MI. The consultant will be expected to facilitate a minimum of 2, 2-day trainings within a 6 month timeframe. The trainings must begin by February 2018, but can be scheduled earlier. Consultant will also be expected to help facilitate group supervision and coaching for the supervisory staff throughout the next year. The schedule for this ongoing coaching will be developed with the consultant. After the initial trainings are conducted, further training opportunities will be explored with the consultant.
Preferred Experience and Expertise:
Member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT)
At least 3 years’ experience providing effective MI training and/or supervision with diverse trainees, including trainees in non-profit social service settings
Experience developing effective training protocols; decision support guides; and processes for measuring MI learning and fidelity
Experience using MI with low-income populations
Experience using a validated coding instrument to assess MI fidelity
Experience effectively training MI to both supervisory and non-supervisory staff
Experience effectively helping organizations implement MI practice, MI training or MI supervision through technical assistance
Proposers who do not have all preferred experience and expertise are still encouraged to apply. All respondents will be evaluated on a combination of their expertise and proposed program approach.
Please submit a resume/CV and a 1 page letter of intent in order to apply. Proposer should also submit a detailed narrative that describes their daily rate for training and hourly rate for ongoing supervision/coaching along with any other involved costs.
