Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Medical Health Technician for the Department of Nursing for Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Provides direct patient care, performs simple nursing procedures, and provides assistance to the professional staff in the evaluation and treatment of patients.
Ensures that each clinic is well organized, fully prepared, and efficiently operated so that every patient and physician encounter occurs with a high level of safety and satisfaction.
Assists faculty and staff to ensure that the necessary medical record, x-rays, reports, and pathology slides are available at the time of the encounter.
Coordinates tumor study group meetings.
Supports the research mission and participates in performance improvement activities, in order to improve the quality, consistency, and efficiency of services provided.
Requires interaction and competency in providing care to patients in all age categories from neonates through geriatrics and all populations with an emphasis on patients with cancer.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Completion of an accredited program in medical assisting or its equivalent (certified to perform the scope of practice in the position) plus one (1) year of related healthcare experience required.
Certification in Medical Assisting and certification in CPR is required.
Must maintain current certification from the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or registration from the American Medical Technologies (AMT), or certification from the National Healthcareer Association (Board approved 8/12/09), or any other recognized certifying body approved by the Board.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Computer literate and proficient of databases and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary.
Exceptional interpersonal skills with an understanding of guest relations principles and demonstrated ability to maintain a professional demeanor and customer service orientation under busy and stressful situations.

PHYSICALDEMANDS: Position requires standing, sitting, walking, use of hands to finger, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch, talk or hear, lifting up to 10 pounds over 2/3 of the time, lifting up to 25 pounds over 2/3 of the time, lifting up to 50 pounds up to 1/3 of the time, lifting up to 100 and more than 100 pounds up to 1/3 of the time, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus. WORKENVIRONMENT: Fast paced, high-pressure office/clinic/hospital environment with stringent deadlines and possible exposure to blood borne pathogens, anti-neoplastic drugs, infections and communicable diseases that require the use of personal protective equipment. Requires the ability to work and cooperate with faculty, students, managers, employees and the public at all levels in order to exchange ideas and information. Requires the ability to work with all patient populations with a primary focus on cancer.
