Full Time 40 hours Grade 094 Microbiology SMH Schedule 4PM-12:30AM; WKENDS/HOL; TRAIN ON DAY SHIFT M-F Responsibilities General Purpose: This Technologist is responsible for the timely and accurate analysis of patient samples, utilizing moderately to highly complex methods. Responsibilities include specimen identification and accessioning in the Laboratory Information System, gram strains, direct viral testing, direct molecular methods, reading culture plates, and positive blood culture notification and work-up. Candidates must be detail-oriented, able to work independently, and possess strong organizational skills. The position will also be responsible for routine maintenance of lab instruments and equipment, routine quality control, and adherence to all lab policies. Responsibilities: Set up and process samples for Microbiology testing. Test patient samples using gram stain, rapid EIA, and PCR technologies. Monitor therapeutic drug levels. Read bacterial cultures and perform susceptibility testing. Sort and organize patient samples for testing and storage. Adhere to quality control and quality assurance protocols. Report results of testing via LIS/instrument interface, as well as manual data entry. Communicate results to patient care providers and answer telephone inquiries. Maintain laboratory stock of kits and reagents. Perform daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance on lab equipment. Participate in proficiency testing and training for technologists. Qualifications: A 4 year college education, including related laboratory and/or technical training with certification by the registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, or other nationally recognized professional certifying body; or a 4 year college education in an appropriate science and 2 years of closely related laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist by New York State. Flexibility to stay beyond regular shift hours, as needed. Bachelorâ™s degree in Medical Technology with clinical laboratory experience and NYS license in the Clinical Laboratory Technologist category is preferred.
