Our School of Nursing has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time, Clinical Nurse Educator.
The purpose of the Clinical Simulation Educator, RN position is to act as instructors and evaluators in providing nursing students with simulated "real-life" experiences in the development of assessment, practice, and diagnostic skills in a safe setting.
The role requires the ability to: - To operationalize the clinical laboratory teaching experience of the School of Nursing; - Provide academic activities to facilitate the success of all students in simulated clinical experiences; and, - Interface effectively with School of Nursing faculty, staff, and students prepared at varying levels of education and expertise, an interdisciplinary university community, and multiple entities and systems within the larger external environment around issues of the Center for Excellence in Nursing Education (CENE).
CENE provides students from units across the UW campus with the opportunity to translate theoretical knowledge into a safe clinical experience using realistic patient scenarios. The CENE provides students with simulated real-life experiences, enhancing their confidence and providing real-time human and technological feedback about the development of their practice assessment and diagnostic skills. This position is integral to the Center's success and vital to the School's mission and strategic goals in educating nursing professionals [on improving the quality and safety of patient care to achieve the best possible outcome] for the citizens of the State of Washington and preparing future leaders to improve health
Clinical Simulation Lab (95%):
Developing, presenting, and evaluating clinical learning laboratory coursework on specific skills and/or techniques to students at all levels.
Applies learning strategies used in clinical simulation and learning by: 1) Implementing a skills remediation program for students; 2) Assuring scheduled, supervised skills practice sessions; 3) Implementation, maintenance of a standardized-patient program; 4) Providing educational experiences for nursing and health care professionals.
Provides organized, best-practice teaching and learning environment for faculty and students.
Provides orientation to CENE users regarding behavioral expectations, performance standards, and appropriate safety measures in the lab.
Evaluates basic nursing skills of undergraduate and graduate nursing students.
Assists in helping students as necessary with lab course skills
Implements, and evaluates UWSoN curricula related to clinical nursing education and simulation.
Advises and consults with faculty and staff in UWSoN and health sciences.
Serves as resource to faculty in the integration of simulation into the nursing curriculum.
Conducts orientation programs and instruction on the lab for students, faculty and staff.
Works cooperatively with technology, library, and other instructional support resources to maintain up-to-date facilities and technology resources for students.
Implements and participates in, and contributes to a safe learning environment; keeps current with safety regulations, provides training and enforcement of safety regulations policies and procedures; inspects and maintains safety equipment; ensures safe storage, collection and safe disposal of hazardous waste/ materials, including medications.
Models and instructs faculty, staff, and, students in the safe use of all equipment.
Maintains federal safety standards with regard to the use of equipment and hazardous waste.
Oversees purchasing/inventory/equipment maintenance; works with vendors regarding instructional material, equipment and supplies to assure most pedagogically-sound and cost-effective equipment for student use; coordinates the evaluation of software and lab equipment and recommends repair, replacement, rental and/or purchase.
Conducts tours and simulation sessions for internal/external groups and/or individuals.
Consults on clinical simulation lab development, design, and curriculum integration for UWSoN, schools of nursing, healthcare professional agencies, and clinical agencies.
Perform other duties as required to support the ongoing mission and strategic plans of the School.
Master's Degree in Nursing.
2-3 years' experience:
Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Washington
Knowledge in the subject of nursing skills
Experience caring for patients in the inpatient or outpatient setting
Experience in nursing and skills content
Ability to work independently and as part of a team and ability to solve problems creatively
Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
Strong customer service skills
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
