The Department of Community Health invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Health Disparities. The department is committed to advancing health equity and eliminating health disparities. We seek a candidate with demonstrated ability to contribute to the inclusive excellence and diversity mission of the department and university, and whose work complements and extends the research and scholarship of the department. The position includes a blend of scholarship, teaching, and service with full 9-month salary support. Areas of particular interest within the field of Health Disparities include the following:
Civic Engagement, Social Movements & Health: a candidate in this area would have a record of scholarship in areas such as, but not limited to: community-engaged participatory research, social capital, community capacity and/or collective efficacy, although all aspects of civic engagement will be considered.
Global Health: a candidate in this area would have expertise in global health (broadly defined), with a record of scholarship in areas such as intervention/implementation research, reproductive health or chronic disease, although all aspects of global health will be considered.
Behavioral/Mental Health: a candidate in this area would have expertise and scholarly work that address the burden of mental health issues nationally and globally, as well as evidence-based interventions that address primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention and treatment at the community level. Some areas of expertise include mental health policy, global mental health, community mental health, and psychiatric epidemiology.
The faculty member is expected to expand his/her portfolio of research supported by extramural funding; teach up to four undergraduate courses in the department per year; advise undergraduate students on course planning, senior honors theses, and other matters related to the department; and participate in department, school, and university-wide service.
Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in a field relevant to community health (e.g., public health, global health, psychology, sociology, social work, public policy, area studies) at the time of application. The successful applicant is expected to have an independent research portfolio, including scholarly contributions to the scientific literature, a track record of externally-funded research and growing recognition in her/his field of interest.
University-level teaching experience is required and experience with undergraduates is preferred. A successful candidate will demonstrate a clear commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, working with a diverse student population, and dedication to collaboration with faculty within and beyond the department, such as other departments within the School of Arts and Sciences (e.g., psychology, sociology, international relations) and with faculty from the Tufts School of Medicine (e.g., Department of Public Health and Community Medicine), the Tisch College of Civic Life and the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy.
