Essential Functions: Assume primary responsibility for producing reports or other deliverable documents to fulfill contracts, and prepare and deliver presentations to policy-making bodies and professional organizations.Actively participate in proposal grant-writing activities, including identifying funding sources and RFPs, developing research questions, designing research methods and data collection procedures, and drafting substantive elements of proposals (needs, significance, project design and/or evaluation, etc.).Assist in designing evaluation procedures/protocols and in drafting research procedures/protocols and data collection instruments.Assist in coordinating data collection activities throughout the state of Michigan, including large survey mailing, face-to-face and telephone interviews, focus groups, and so forth; monitor data collection progress.Prepare regular updates to Center Director and Managing Director.
Qualifications: A Masters degree in any area of social science research (including political science, public administration, demography, education, geography, psychology, public health, social work, sociology, survey methodology, statistics, and urban studies) is required; working toward a PhD is preferred. Demonstrated experience in producing research project reports, preparing presentations, and web communication, and components of research proposals.Knowledge of social science research methods and practicalities of implementation, and experience in primary data collection procedures (CATI, web-based surveys, mail surveys, in-person interviews, focus groups, etc.) required.Experience in statistical analyses. Ability to effectively utilize software necessary to convert and process data (e.g. SAS, SPSS, Excel, Access, Dbase). Two years minimum of experience working in an academic research environment.
