OVERVIEW:Family Focus’ mission is to promote the well-being of children from birth by supporting and strengthening their families as individual units and within their communities. POSITION SUMMARY: The Parent Educator aims to promote healthy family functioning, and enhance the development of very young children with home visits, parent education, and case management. The Parent Educator will provide case management services to participants including but not limited to assessment of need, service planning, home visits, reassessments, linkages and referrals to public and private services and programs, information dissemination, advocacy, mental health assessment, and service plan follow-up planning. The Parent Educator will also coordinate parent education components of program.
Work with parents to strengthen the family’s knowledge of child development, including assisting parents to understand how children grow and learn, and planning and conducting child education activities with parents that meet the child’s intellectual, physical, emotional, and social needs.
Assist parents in strengthening the families’ knowledge of health and nutrition, including integrating health and nutrition education into the program and providing information and referrals.
Conduct case management duties including needs and strengths assessments, screenings, referrals and, home visits and follow-ups with 24 families
Maintain current knowledge on early childhood development and education
Collaborate with local social service agencies in order to coordinate services for participants
Assist parents to strengthen their knowledge of community resources and support parents in problem solving.
Provide education, information and referrals to program participants.
Identify partners, speakers and curriculum to meet the needs of participants and provide education series for parents on a number of early child development topics, such as parent/child interaction activities, gross and fine motor skill development, literacy and language acquisition.
Represent Family Focus Evanston to the community by upholding a high standard of professionalism in community councils, coalitions, partnerships, and other meetings as assigned.
Maintain the highest level of participant confidentiality and have a sensitive and non-judgmental attitude.
Attend required meetings; all staff, team and individual supervision meetings.
Maintain participant records in accordance to professional standards and funding source requirements.
Complete and submit required documentation for record keeping.
Be a resource for parents, a facilitator for learning, and an advocate.
Understand and carry out the overall mission and goals of the agency and program and the principles of family-centered, strength-based, prevention services.
Be aware of and adhere to all personnel policies.
Set goals for professional growth.
Participate in recommended training programs, conferences, courses and other aspects of professional growth.
Maintain a prompt work schedule and inform supervisor of any changes in schedule.
Perform other duties as assigned
Degree in social work or early childhood preferred with related experience working with infants, young children and families.
Knowledge and skill I working with families in crisis or sensitive situations.
Bilingual English/Spanish with good oral and written communication skills in both languages. Ability to write and edit documents in English.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Must have access to transportation.
Well-developed time management skills.
Working knowledge of Word and Excel.
Work related travel required. Some evenings and occasional weekends required.
