The candidate for this position is a vital member of the patient centered medical treatment team. They will work alongside providers and other medical staff to provide direct patient care, act as a liaison with community and other specialized services and complete administrative duties such as entering patient information into the electronic medical record, scheduling follow up appointments, handling correspondence and updating records, applying for insurance prior authorizations and making referrals for patients.
- Attends to the general care of patients, provides for their emotional and physical comfort and safety, and maintains an attractive and comfortable environment; gives assistance and guidance in cleanliness, grooming, rest, activities, and nourishment; - Prepares and cares for patients receiving specialized treatments administered by the physician or the professional nurse; performs selected nursing procedures; - Cares for patients with communicable diseases including necessary sterilization and observation of aseptic techniques; preparation and aftercare of treatment and administration of oral, subcutaneous, and intramuscular medications under the supervision of the professional nurse; - Encourages and supervises patients in group or individual recreational, social, or related activities; - Observes, records, and reports the general condition of patient, accurately documenting in a patient's Electronic Medical Record (EMR). - Accesses confidential (PHI) as clinically appropriate and ensures confidentiality by following the policies and procedures related to disclosure of information within the clinic and the university. - Provides care to assigned patients utilizing the current treatment plan; - Administers oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and rectal medications under the supervision of the professional nurse and treating provider; - Initiates and participates in clinical emergencies such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation; - Performs telephone triage; follows standardized protocol(s) to provide information; documents phone call in the electronic medical record; - Acts as a liaison between the patient and physician; - Order supplies and medications as directed; - Check and sterilize instruments as directed; - Supervise student cleaning staff as directed; - Recognizes value of and promotes diverse workforce. At least one year of experience working in a medical office setting
Experience and/or training demonstrating the ability to provide customer service including the responsibility to listen to customers, identify issues, and to provide the appropriate referrals.
Experience or training that demonstrates the ability to use Word, Excel, e-mail and/or similar software applications to produce written correspondence, create and maintain spreadsheets, receive and respond to e-mail inquiries, tasks, etc.
1-year clinical experience, with public health and/or student medical clinic a plus
Familiar with electronic medical records (EMR)
Familiar with obtaining referrals, prior authorizations for medical services, labs, medications, and radiological studies of care provided outside of clinic
Possession of a current Washington State license to practice as a Medical Assistant

Pay,Benefits, & Work Schedule
Salary: $2654/month with periodic increases up to $3436/month
Schedule/Appointment: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1 hour lunch) / 8 Months / PSE Bargaining Unit 3
This position works indoors with occasional off site work and infrequently may perform work outdoors
This individual will be able to ambulate unimpeded with frequent sitting and standing for eight hours a day.
This individual will be expected to assist patients who may need to move from standing to sitting, positioning for medical procedures (minor surgery, labs, radiology and injections)
In emergencies (infrequently), they may be required to assist lifting and positioning for safety of patients.
Able to assist (rarely) in CPR as needed including assisting patients on the floor
Work occurs in an integrated medical and counseling facility where potential exposure to blood born pathogens and communicable diseases may occur. This individual will maintain appropriate immunizations and safety precautions to complete their assigned duties.
Some travel may be required to attend trainings, participate in campus and community medical activities.
Infrequent late evening and weekend work may occur.
