The Sinai Urban Health Institute (SUHI) is a research center dedicated to improving the health of Chicago's urban communities. Led by a team of committed and energetic social epidemiologists, the Institute provides evidence-based examination of community health status, the effectiveness of interventions and clinical care, and health-care delivery methodologies. Since 2000, SUHI has implemented and evaluated a number of interventions focused on reducing the health burden that chronic conditions including diabetes, breast cancer, and asthma, among others, exert on some of Chicago's most vulnerable communities.
We are seeking an epidemiologist to:
Support, facilitate, and coordinate daily clinical trial activities;
Develop and maintain study protocols and standard operating procedures;
Organize and manage data;
Conduct analyses of data gathered through our diabetes trial;
Contribute to grant writing and the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
Specific responsibilities may include: maintaining project files; leading all ethics committee approvals; supervising other research staff; developing and managing databases; preparing reports; and reviewing the literature. The selected applicant will be expected to contribute to the intellectual development of the Institute as a whole as time allows.
The successful applicant should:
Have an M.P.H. or an M.S. in Epidemiology, Statistics, or a closely related field and at least 5 years of relevant work experience OR have a Ph.D. in Epidemiology, Statistics, or a closely related field;
Have advanced analytical skills, including experience with a statistical programming package (preferably Stata);
Have experience with clinical trials;
Be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to a variety of audiences;
Be comfortable working with others in a team environment;
Be able to multi-task and prioritize;
Have a working knowledge of Microsoft products including: Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
Experience working in a trial in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines would be ideal. The candidate should have exceptional attention to detail, the ability to think critically, and to prioritize among many study activities. An interest in social epidemiology and the use of epidemiological research and investigation as tools in addressing the needs of urban and vulnerable communities are a plus.
