Universityof Maryland, Baltimore is currently seeking a Technical Trades Manager forthe Department of Facilities Management. Theselected candidate will oversee and coordinate administrative and technicaloperations associated with the Plumbing Trade. Responsible for dailyoperational functions, supervision of staff, quality control and emergencymanagement.

Serve as technical expert and manage the dailyoperations in the technical trade specialty: Responsible for developing andcreating unit goals and objectives.
Plan, supervise, and coordinate the activitiesof assigned personnel in the specialty trade. Provide technical expertise andguidance to the staff. Provide training to staff in work methods, use of toolsand equipment, and relevant safety precautions. Participate in performanceevaluations and hiring; recommends areas for individual training anddevelopment.
Read, interpret, and work from blueprints,drawings, schematics and specifications.
Oversee and recommend changes to the internaloperating procedures.
Schedule and coordinate activities with theuser departments and divisions. Assess needs and technical requests. Ensure thetimely completion of forecasted and preventive maintenance programs.
Respond to inquiries and complaints from theuser departments.
Provide visual inspection and quality controlby monitoring project progress. Ensure compliance with projected results,codes, regulations, and requested standards.
Examine and inspect work progress, equipment,and work sites to verify safety and to ensure that specifications are met. Recommends special work or necessary equipment maintenance, upgrades, designs,and or purchases.
Estimate material and worker requirements tocomplete job. Assist in budget projections, budget preparation and departmentalplanning for area of responsibility. Monitor work activities and expendituresto control costs.
Ensure adequate supplies, materials andequipment are maintained for the area; initiate and/or prepare documentationrelated to purchase transactions; recommend and supervise vendors; oversee theordering process.
Evaluate emergency service needs that ariseduring shift to determine level of action required. Determine strategy andprovides follow-up with management in affected area. When necessary, serve asworking supervisor to meet the demands and needs of the situation.
Research and recommend applications of newoperational methods, techniques and equipment.
Participate in developing, implementing, andevaluating work processes, systems and procedures to achieve University goals,objectives, and work standards.
Provide day-to-day leadership and works with staff to ensure a high performance, customer oriented work environment andsupport for achieving the mission of the University andthe department.
May participate in long-term planning to assessfuture needs to achieve the mission of the University and department.
Education: High school diploma or GED. None Experience: Eight (8) years progressively responsible related experience Supervisory: Four (4) years of experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
Licensure/Certification: Maryland State Licensed Plumber.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, schematics and specifications.
Knowledge of relevant regulations regarding specialty area (such as OSHA regulations).
Familiar with the concepts, practices, and procedures in the field.
Ability to translate technical requests into designs, charts, sketches, and/or diagrams of specialized equipment.

Ability to exert force up to 70lbs, work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces and adverse weather or temperature conditions as well as the ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
