The College of Education has an outstanding opportunity for a Part-Time Research Scientist 2 for an externally funded multi-study investigation of the academic language skills of teachers and students across grades 4 to 7 and the impact of such knowledge on instruction and student outcomes. Reporting to the PI, the Research Scientist will be a key member of the research project team and will contribute to coordination of data collection methods across multiple collaborating schools and strategies for data management; and will work with the PI and project team to ensure that materials, strategies and all elements of the research project are implemented with fidelity and project objectives are met in a timely manner. This position requires independent judgment and decision making, and will exercise substantial responsibility to help ensure the success of the project.
In support of this effort the Research Scientist duties will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Contribute to data collection methods, efforts and strategies for data management.
Assist with the analyzing writing, editing and dissemination of research findings.
Assist with communication between project leadership and participating schools and research subjects.
Support participation of schools.
Participate in weekly project meetings with the PI and project leadership.
Assist in preparing and presenting progress reports for the PI and project leadership.
Coordinate with other project staff, including graduate research assistants.
In collaboration with the College of Education Dean's Office, ensure that the project conforms to institutional and departmental policies and regulations.
Other potential duties as assigned.
Master's degree in Education or related field.
Minimum three to five years related experience that includes some experience working within schools.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas in written materials.
Ability to work independently and as an integral member of a team.
Ability to problem solve, take initiative, set priorities, handle multiple projects and exercise good judgment in a fast paced, dynamic and deadline driven environment in an organized and professional manner.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and to handle confidential and sensitive information in an appropriate manner.
Proficiency with personal computing environment, Microsoft Office Suite, statistical software, and the Internet.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Doctoral degree in Education or related field.
Previous experience conducting school-based research is preferred.
