The College of Medicine, Department of Surgery, is looking for a Nurse Practitioner in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. This position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.
Job Summary/Duties: Join a busy and growing cardiac surgical practice supporting the clinical, educational and research academic missions. Work with 3 cardiac surgeons to assist in providing comprehensive, continuous, and personalized care and education for patients in the Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiac Surgery in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
With the physician team as well as inter-professional staff, provide comprehensive patient care on the inpatient cardiac surgery service. Assist physicians and other providers in delivery of care to manage common episodic and chronic illnesses and administer medication and treatments as prescribed. Obtain treatment consents as needed.
Discriminate between normal conditions and normal and abnormal deviations by specific screening and tests. Refer patients with abnormal findings to physicians.
Run two ½ day outpatient cardiac surgery clinic each week. Conduct basic physical and psychosocial assessment of the individual and/or family. Collect developmental history of patient.
Provide patient and family education for cardiac diseases. Provide counseling and health training.
Assist with the education of rotating residents and medical students.
Participate in clinical research projects.
Maintain accurate records, order supplies as necessary; stock and maintain rooms.
Provide direct supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
Perform related duties based on departmental need.
Current/valid CNP license to practice in the state of Ohio prior to start, DEA and certificate to prescribe
A Master's degree in Nursing and graduation from an ANA approved Nurse Practitioner Program.
Three (3) years nursing experience.
