Job Description: The Rhode Island Innovative Policy Lab (RIIPL) at Brown University is a collaboration between Brown University and the Office of the Governor in Rhode Island (OGRI) to develop evidenced-based policy using data and state-of-the-art research. Team members work together and in close collaboration with faculty investigators as well as with officials in Rhode Island government. The Senior Project Manager will take a leading role in coordinating multiple evaluations, managing relations with government, academic and private-sector partners, and coordinating staff efforts between Research Analysts, Data Analysts, and Data Architects to ensure efficient operation of large scale research projects at RIIPL. This position is ideal for someone who has worked as a project manager conducting Randomized Controlled Trials with accompanying data analysis and research reporting in a research, policy, or government/public sector environment, holds an advanced degree, and is now looking for a leadership opportunity to positively impact public policy and society with data and research. Responsibilities include:
â¢ Assist research faculty with design survey questionnaires and managing survey teams
â¢ Negotiating contracts with survey firms, government agencies or private data vendors
â¢ Data Management and Analysis
â¢ Coordinating with government partners running the programs being evaluated
â¢ Assisting with government-academic conferences to facilitate policy-idea development
â¢ and research dissemination
â¢ Assisting with grant writing
â¢ Overseeing website content for research result dissemination
Bachelorâ™s degree minimum (Masterâ™s or PhD preferred), in economics, public policy or related field with training in microeconomics, behavioral economics, econometrics, statistics, computer science or data science sufficient to understand technical research and translate it into non-technical writing.
Relevant work experience required running Randomized Controlled Trials, including 3-5 years in field work experience, policy evaluation, survey design and implementation, and/or job experience working in government or as a government liaison.
Quantitative skills and experience using Stata and similar statistical packages is important.
Strong leadership skills, managerial experience and the ability to articulate research and to negotiate with government officials is a plus
Excellent oral and written communication skills; effective communication of research interventions and scientific findings with policy makers and community organizers
Ability to effectively manage projects, teams, and coordination with outside partners
Successfully engage with local NGOs and community organizations during project development and implementation
Ability to communicate effectively and form consensus in public forums with ideologically diverse audience members
Outstanding organizational skills; highly attentive to detail and able to prioritize tasks between multiple projects
Strategic, entrepreneurial approach to developing ideas and designing solutions
Ability to use and embrace task management and documentation software.
Bilingual in Spanish is helpful, but not required.
