The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University (NC State) invites applications for the position of Head of the Department of Food, Bioprocessing, and Nutrition Sciences (FBNS). The Department Head has overall responsibility for the leadership and administration of all teaching, research, and extension activities in the department. The Department Head also has a key role in the recruitment and development of faculty and staff, oversees planning and evaluation of the Department's academic, research, and extension programs, and is responsible for allocation and accountability of departmental budgets. The Head will foster an environment of diversity and inclusion and promote mutually beneficial working relationships. The Head will be actively involved in fundraising to support the department's programs and other developmental activities and serve as the lead representative in interactions with college and university administrators, industry and commodity groups, and consumers. The Department Head is expected to promote collaborations and partnerships with other University departments as well as state, national, and international agencies. This position will further have responsibilities with regard to several FBNS departmental faculty and staff members located at the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, which also is the site of the new Food Science Processing and Innovation Center, as well as members at the Center for Marine Sciences and Technology (CMAST) facility at Morehead City. The Department Head position is viewed as a full-time administrative position.
Requires doctor’s degree, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience
Demonstrated previous administrative experience.
Effective communication skills and team building capabilities.
Must possess a commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and extension, and be able to articulate the vision of the department within the context of a land-grant university.
Must be able to support and mentor faculty and foster effective interdisciplinary scholarship.
