The Health Education Coordinator is part of CWU's Wellness Center team. The Wellness Center supports CWU's mission to bring together individuals of diverse backgrounds and perspectives in an inclusive, student-centered university that develops the potential for success. This position will initiate, develop and manage health promotion activities that maximize and maintain healthy lifestyles at CWU. This position serves individual students in counseling role as both back-up sexual assault response provider and providing confidential health assessments and referrals. Collects and analyzes data to identify campus needs. Plan, implement, monitor and evaluate programs that encourage healthy lifestyles, policies and environments.
The Health Education Coordinator will initiate and maintain contact with other departments, student groups and organizations to better inform the CWU campus of Wellness services (i.e. Residence Life, Campus Life, ASCWU-BOD, Residence Hall Association, Public Safety and Police Services). This position collaborates with faculty on issues relating to curriculum infusion and assist in classroom instruction as appropriate; and may serve as a back-up representative of CWU and Wellness on various community coalitions/organizations.
Health Promotion Programming/Coordination - Plan campus-wide health promotion events on behalf of the Wellness Center (i.e. Alcohol Awareness Week, Mental Health Promotion, Women's Health Week, Violence Prevention) and collaborate on other campus group efforts. - Initiate and maintain contact with other departments, student groups and organizations to better inform the CWU campus of Wellness Center services (i.e. Residence Life, Campus Life, ASCWU-BOD, Residence Hall Association, Public Safety and Police Services). - Collaborate with faculty on issues relating to curriculum infusion and assist in classroom instruction as appropriate. - Conduct on-going training seminars to enhance skills and training for campus community. - Coordinate the timely revision, ordering, distribution, and evaluation of health education materials for the Wellness Center.
Peer Health Educator Supervisor - Work collaboratively with Wellness staff to recruit, train and supervise student employees and volunteers in foundational information pertaining to college student health, principles of information and service delivery, and knowledge of Wellness Center service areas. - Manage Peer (Student) Health Educators, which involves the recruitment, selection, training, supervision of the students, and evaluation of their programming goals and objectives.
Assessment - Establish baseline and comparative measures that assess progress toward Wellness Center goals and provide snapshot of student behavior. - Participate in the assessment of all Wellness Center health promotion activities, including the peer educator program, all outreach, and all services and outreach programs provided by students reporting to this position. - Create/compile quarterly reports of assessment results. - Help coordinate and distribute National College Health Assessment and other surveys as appropriate.
Other Support: - Serve individual students in counseling role as both back-up sexual assault response provider and provide confidential health assessments and referrals in absence of other professional staff. - Assist Director with strategic planning and implementation of short and long term plans for Wellness operations. - Assist Director in compiling and publishing annual reports. - Support design and development of the Wellness Center website

Bachelor's degree in Health Education, Social Work, Public Health, or related field; or Bachelor's degree AND any combination of education and experience which clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
Demonstrated professional experience in the area(s) of sexual health (including sexually transmitted infections and birth control; mental health (including suicide prevention); and/or nutrition, exercise and positive body image.
Demonstrated ability to design, coordinate, implement and evaluate health promotion programs for diverse populations.
Demonstrated skill designing and delivering effective presentations and trainings to groups
Master's degree in Health Education, Higher Education, Social Work, Public Health, or related field.
Experience working with individuals in the 18-25 year age range.
Two or more years of experience in peer health education program development, with an emphasis on training, supervision and retention of volunteers.
Knowledge of primary health issues for college students.
Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), or able to obtain within a year of employment.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in the Wellness Center. Some classroom workshops and lectures are presented in conference rooms, residence halls, and other locations as necessary. Some evening, weekend and on-call work will be required. Working conditions can be stressful. Certain situations may exist that require conflict-resolution and dispute resolution skills. Set-up for workshops occasionally requires carrying and lifting of heavy equipment and materials. There is potential risk for harm from clients who may become violent or express symptoms of mental illness.
