Yale Health is a not-for-profit, physician-led, multispecialty practice providing comprehensive, integrated health care to the University’s faculty, staff, and students and their dependents and eligible retirees. Most services are provided in the Yale Health Center, a new, state-of-the-art health center on the Yale campus. Additional services are provided through partnership with the faculty practice of Yale School of Medicine and Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Yale Health is the health benefit choice of more than 70 percent of the University’s faculty and staff. The Yale Health benefit plan is fully pre-paid, with no commercial billing. Most services, including all primary care visits, do not require co-pays. Yale Health has had a fully-implemented electronic health record for more than 10 years and actively encourages the sharing of information with patients through a widely-used online portal.
Yale Health Internal Medicine, staffed with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, advanced practice providers, and registered nurses, is the medical home for adult primary care, providing more than 30,000 visits per year. Acute Care is a 24/7 walk-in service that offers unscheduled urgent care services to the entire Yale Health population of more than 40,000 members. In addition to Internal Medicine, primary care is provided within departments of Pediatrics, Student Health, Mental Health, and Ob-Gyn. Other medical services located in the Yale Health Center include Diagnostic Imaging, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Physical Therapy and a number of medical and surgical specialties. A 17-bed inpatient unit provides short-term skilled nursing care.
The Chief of Internal Medicine and Acute Care is a very important member of the Yale Health leadership team. Reporting to the Medical Director, the Chief will need to excel in the following ways:
Function as the physician-leader of the clinical staff of Yale Health Internal Medicine and Acute Care departments, with 15 FTEs of clinicians;
Promote and support excellence in adult primary care at Yale Health by shaping efforts to:
Ensure that staffing and scheduling are adequate to meet the needs of patients within established access guidelines;
Establish and implement standards of care that reflect evidence-based practice and patient-centered goals;
Lead major initiatives in clinical quality improvement and work process optimization;
Work with the Medical Director and the senior team to identify and implement strategic opportunities to improve quality and cost effectiveness of care in the identified areas of clinical responsibility; and
Create, develop, and maintain strategic partnerships with Yale Medical Group, Yale Medical School, and Yale-New Haven Hospital;
Maximize the potential of the clinical staff through performance measurement, implementation of developmental performance goals, identifying opportunities for role enhancement, and supporting a reasonable approach to work-life balance; and
Work with the Medical Director for Population Health and other clinical leaders to improve clinical outcomes and maximize the health of adult members of Yale Health.
Yale Health is especially interested in candidates who can contribute, through their education and experience, to the diversity and excellence of the Yale community. Successful candidates will be professionals who are stimulated by the idea of working with our unique patient population, which includes members of all ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, and varied racial/ethnic identities. Yale Health is an open and accepting medical home providing culturally sensitive, patient-centered care to all members.
Yale University considers applicants for employment without regard to, and does not discriminate based on an individual’s sex, race, color, religion, age, disability, status as a veteran, or national or ethnic origin; nor does Yale discriminate based on sexual orientation or gender identity or expression. Yale Health especially encourages applications from women, persons with disabilities, protected veterans and members of underrepresented minority groups.
