Medical Director of the Virginia Health Practitioner Monitoring Program (HPMP)
Seeking M.D. with experience in addictions (board certified in either addiction psychiatry or addiction medicine preferred but not required), and program management. Psychiatrist preferred. Medical Review Officer Certification is a plus. This position will be a faculty position in the Department of Psychiatry at VCU in the Division of Addiction Psychiatry, and will involve clinical work/administration, teaching, and research. Clinical aspects of the position include Medical Director of the Virginia Health Practitioner Monitoring Program, which provides confidential services for the health practitioner, who may be impaired by any physical or mental disability, or who suffers from chemical dependency. Additional clinical work could include providing inpatient services with our Substance Abuse Consult Team, outpatient services and/or community contract work. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the Department's scheduled on-call and weekend coverage schedule.
This is a strategic position that requires vision and leadership, yet offers opportunity for hands-on work in a variety of areas. Strong academic department with over 80 faculty and outstanding programs in Addictions Research, FMRI, and Psychiatric Genetics. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
VCU Department of Psychiatry employs over 80 fulltime faculty and has well-funded research in genetics, imaging addictions, child and women's mental health and psychopharmacology. VCU is a large urban university with robust health science campus and 750-bed university hospital. Richmond, the State Capital, has moderate climate and rich mix of history with modern facilities, excellent suburban housing, public/private schools.
