Brown University Computing and Information Services seeks a qualified Senior Network Engineer to join the Network Team.
The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the design and implementation of University networking standards as technology and products evolve. This also includes developing migration strategies for software defined networking, network function virtualization and process automation. This position makes recommendations to management and assists with changes in work flow procedures to make them more effective for day to day operations. Responsibilities also include ticket escalation requests from the Network Operations team to ensure ticket resolution in a timely manner. The Senior Network Engineer works as a CIS team member and is expected to perform as a liaison or resource to other CIS groups and university departments for projects and system implementations.
Senior Network Engineer
BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent education and experience
5 years of IT experience including a minimum of 3 years of NOC experience or work involving level 2 support responsibilities
Cisco certification is preferred
Thorough knowledge of routing protocols (eg. BGP, OSPF) and wireless technologies
Experience writing scripts for automation of tasks using languages like Python with an understanding of vendor supplied APIs.
Familiar with software defined networking and network function virtualization using open flow (or equivalent) based devices and controllers
Familiar with concepts of hybrid switch technology and strategies for migrating to Software Defined Networking or Network Function Virtualization.
Ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical staff, faculty and students.
Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize activities
Strong problem-solving skills and packet capture analysis
Strong project management and organizational skills.Must be able to independently lead cross-functional project teams.
Expert knowledge of network fundamentals including network protocols, server and desktop environments, network hardware and software, and network management tools.
