Postdoctoral research positions are available immediately in the neurophysiology laboratory of Dr. David D. Kline, Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Missouri. The laboratory is housed within the Dalton Cardiovascular Research Center. Our laboratory (http://klinelab.dalton.missouri.edu/) focuses on the integration, plasticity and adaptation of sensory reflexes into the brainstem and neuronal communication within the brain in health and disease. NIH-funded projects include investigation of synaptic transmission in the brainstem, communication between the brainstem and forebrain, and neural-glia interactions. Individuals will have the opportunity to utilize a range of state-of-the-art approaches including: brain slice and isolated cell electrophysiology (patch clamp), immunohistochemistry, real time RT-PCR, imaging, immunoblots and microinjection studies. The ideal applicant will have expertise in neurophysiology using one or more of these approaches with experience specifically in brain slice electrophysiology preferred and an interest in central autonomic and/or respiratory regulation. Selected individuals will join a highly interactive group of NIH-funded investigators with independent research programs studying neural control of the cardiorespiratory system.
PhD in neuroscience, MD or comparable doctoral degree; prior training in neuroscience, cardiovascular and/or respiratory regulation is highly desirable.
