Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Business Specialist to provides support to the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy. This position oversees internal business processes like purchasing, payroll and commitment accounting and manages accounting and budget for several active research units. The key duties of this position are the following:
Manages multiple center operating and grant accounts including general reconciliation and works with Division of Grant Accounting to produce reliable, accurate financial reports for internal informational use by PI's and Center Directors as well as periodic external reports as required by individual sponsors.
Troubleshoots anomalies by working with central offices like Research, Grant Accounting, Payroll, Student Accounting.
Analyzes and compiles data to populate internal and external reports including drawing on data produced by timekeeping software and registration systems.
Manages commitment accounting processes to accurately reflect effort balances posted to fund sources.
Creates annual budgets in coordination with PI's and Grants Manager.
Oversees day-to-day accounting and business functions including requisitions, purchasing, payroll, travel expenses, registration systems, timekeeping software, journal entries, salary reallocations.
Tracks commitments and expenditures for unrestricted and restricted reconciliations.
Coordinates administration functions including day-to-day operations, in consultation with the Dean's Office and Center Directors, regarding space, planning, projections, staffing.
Serves as a liaison with central offices, representative at "user group" meetings for financial reports and university policies and procedures with goal of training colleagues and stakeholders at EJB.
Develops and implements a data infrastructure to improve grant, personnel and instructional processes.
Completes various other tasks and duties as assigned to support the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and practices.
Also requires a minimum of two years of related professional experience in a financial/accounting function.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Good communication skills and computer literacy required.
Knowledge of two or more university systems, e.g., Marketplace, Cornerstone, HCM, RAPSS required.
