Reporting directly to the Vice President for Campus Life, the Assistant Vice President provides leadership and strategic planning for the Division of Campus Life, and helps to establish and implement initiatives and programs to ensure the division and university are attune to and responsive to the diversity of Brownâ™s student population. The Assistant Vice President develops key relationships with the Dean of the College, Dean of the Graduate School, and Office of the Provost to integrate the academic and co-curricular student experience. The Assistant Vice President oversees a staff of approximately 20 with a combined operating budget of $2 million. The seven areas reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President are: Brown Center for Students of Color, First-Generation and Low-Income Student Center, International Student Experience, LGBTQ Center, Sarah Doyle Womenâ™s Center, Stephen Robert '62 Campus Center & Student Activities Office, and Student Veterans and Commissioning Programs. The Assistant Vice President manages division wide assessment and the Campus Life Advisory Board.
Masterâ™s degree in a discipline related to higher education required; doctorate preferred
Minimum 8-10 years of administrative experience at a complex institution of higher education, with a record of progressively responsible leadership positions, preferably in multiple student service areas
Capacity to facilitate organizational change and development consistent with the mission of the division
Broad expertise with current best practices, and an awareness of emerging issues in student affairs and higher education
Demonstrated quantitative skills in data analysis, evaluation, assessment, and reporting
Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
Demonstrated experience in personnel and fiscal management, including the ability to hire, cultivate and retain outstanding talent
Ability to work effectively with students
Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities
Sound judgement and the ability to make difficult decisions
Evidence of creative strategic thinking
Strong written and oral communication skills
