STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Special Programs Coordinator is responsible for processing student financial aid files and determining student eligibility for federal and state financial aid funds. The Special Programs Coordinator meets with students to provide information about financial aid programs and assists students to complete necessary applications and forms. The position requires conducting workshops on and off campus and presenting pertinent information in regards to the availability of financial aid. The Coordinator will work collaboratively with the financial aid staff and other college personnel to deliver student centered services with an emphasis on customer service and the use of technology to facilitate access to and encourage student retention.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Dean of Financial Aid and Technology.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Coordinator reviews, evaluates, and assesses student financial aid application data to determine eligibility by verifying income and insuring compliance with other U.S. Department of Education and MA Board of Higher Education eligibility guidelines. The Coordinator will represent the Financial Aid Office at evening and weekend enrollment events. Specific job duties include:
Reviews student files for financial aid award package.
Manages the Direct Lending and Alternative Loan Programs.
Counsels students and appropriate family members on available financial aid opportunities.
Assist students and families through the FAFSA and verification process.
Provides information and guidance to students and families regarding unique circumstances impacting financial aid eligibility.
Reconciles various award accounts for compliance.
Conducts workshops and presents financial aid information at college events, high schools and community agencies.
Serves in an administrative capacity on an on-call basis.
Participates and presents in Paloozas and other Enrollment events on and off campus.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Services, Sociology or closely related field; Three years' experience and/or training involving financial aid operations, or loan processing; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; excellent organizational skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; strong interpersonal and analytical skills; experience working with the public in a customer service setting; understanding of and commitment to issues of diversity and multiculturalism and ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Services, Sociology or closely related field; experience in a higher education setting, preferably in the community college; familiarity with financial aid forms and procedures; experience in a financial aid office and ability to speak a language in addition to English.
