Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position works closely with the Director of Health Promotion for Faculty in advising Appalachian State University employees on a variety of fitness and health-related issues.
Responsible for teaching student employee effective leadership, management, and organizational skills.
Recruiting, hiring, scheduling, training, and supervising all fitness staff.
Maintains comprehensive reports for all fitness activity: total number of participants, total number of staff and hours worked, total classes taught, equipment maintenance, etc.
Communicates with all staff, participants, university departments, and local physicians through emails, direct conversation/meetings, and announcements
Additional duties of this position include the day-to-day operations:
Leads multiple, and diverse group exercise classes
Resolves conflicts and complaints from participants and staff; promoting positive personal and professional development of all staff
Provides medical training if necessary (CPR/First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogen)
Works closely with the Director to implement and manage a risk management system that prescribes proper safety for the Health Promotion for Faculty and Staff program.
Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Public Health, Health Education, or related field.
Experience working in college or university setting.
Maintains Personal Trainers and/or Group Fitness Instructor Certification from a nationally accredited organization such as American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), American Council for Exercise (ACE), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), etc.
