The Marine Studies Initiative (MSI) is seeking a Academic Advisor. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, fixed term professional faculty position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.
This new position will contribute directly to the success of OSU students through advising, student support, and mentoring efforts that help fulfill OSU's commitment to student success.
This position will coordinate closely with academic units and advisors across campus to ensure students have clear pathways and access to marine-related curricula and other training opportunities such as internships.
The Marine Studies Academic Advisor will also join the team of advisors at the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) to support students matriculating to the new Marine Studies major and minor degrees offered through CLA. The Academic Advisory team members in CLA are champions of a Liberal Arts education and are passionate about it being at the core of higher education. The individual in this position must also show a desire to work with Ecampus students, which may require various forms of communication including telephone appointments, Skype, e-mail, etc.
The Marine Studies Initiative (MSI) was launched in 2015 by Oregon State University to develop a new teaching, research, outreach and engagement model that will help sustain healthy oceans and all who depend on them. This program unites the university's diverse expertise. MSI is an organization within the Provost's office, and its Executive and Associate Directors provide leadership to advance the core initiative goals for transdisciplinary education, research, outreach and engagement. The Academic Advisor works in close consultation and coordination with MSI leadership to advance academic development goals. The incumbent must understand the MSI program goals and related academic offerings across campus and may advise faculty curriculum development efforts. The individual in this position must have a commitment to student success, diversity enhancement and inclusion.
Typically requires Bachelors Degree in field related to work assigned.

At least two years' experience working with college students
Experience working with technology (Skype, online degree tracking systems, Microsoft suite, webpage development, and Adobe software)
Strong communication and presentation skills
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be deemed fit for duty at placement and while serving in the position.

Salary (Maximum): $53,460
