Office Assistant – Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning
George Mason University's Digital Learning team, within the Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning, is seeking an enthusiastic, customer‐focused, and detail‐oriented Administrative Specialist. This is a part‐time, 20‐25 hours per week position. Digital Learning leads in the development of digitally enhanced teaching and learning experiences. We do this by partnering with faculty and the university community to promote quality and continuous improvement throughout program and course design, and implementation. We also promote and support the academic, personal, and professional success of Mason's online students.
This position will report to the Assistant Director for the Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning, Digital Learning. The incumbent's primary duties entail a diverse range of administrative office support and program responsibilities including, but not limited to:
Providing high‐quality general administrative/office management support (e.g., answering phones, handling and managing e-mail inquiries, managing the schedule/calendar for meetings and events, ordering supplies, processing travel authorizations and reimbursements);
Assisting office manager and assistant director in communications activities (electronic, paper, and web-based) for initiatives, events, awards processes, and various committees/task forces;
Providing support for events and special projects (e.g., student and faculty orientations, other programs);
Purchasing according to university guidelines and overseeing P‐Card (purchase card) management;
Working in collaboration with other administrative staff in the Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning; and
Cross‐train responsibilities to ensure effective office continuity.
General office administrative/management experience;
Ability to demonstrate professionalism, initiative, and a willingness to learn;
Experience working in a fast‐paced office setting;
Experience with calendar management;
Strong written (writing and editing) and oral communication skills;
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access;
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks;
Experience communicating and interacting with constituents at diverse levels of an organization;
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment; and
Detail‐oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of experience and education;
Experience with website management (e.g., Drupal, WordPress, and/or HTML);
Design experience (e.g., brochures, programs, and other materials) using Adobe suite is a plus;
Knowledge of Blackboard, wikis, and/or other collaborative working tools; and
Experience in a higher education setting.
